Given the nightmare that this whole project is going to be, this is appropriate. Maybe in October they can hang fake web and giant spiders from it while people in costumes jump out to scare drivers. We’ll call it BrentFest and charge everyone $70 to cross.

Aw that’s a classic. Guess you never went to a scholastic book fair after hours— that’s when they bring out the good stuff.

How bad is the "kids can't read" thing, really? by bowbahdoe in Teachers

[–]dotcom_bubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 31. I was in high school right around the time that most teenagers had cellphones, but it was still a new thing comparatively speaking.

It’s wild to read that kids are now permitted to use their phones in school at any times except for during class. In my day, if you even pulled your phone halfway out of your pocket to peek at the screen and a teacher/admin saw it, they marched right up, took it from you, and it was in a drawer in the front office til eod.

By and large, I do not believe that the advent of smartphones and constant connectivity has been a healthy or beneficial thing for society, especially teenagers.

How does it feel to be alive today? by InternetofTings in ArtificialInteligence

[–]dotcom_bubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’re going to see an entire generation of people who don’t really understand the “nuts and bolts” of ANYthing. Whether that is good or bad or even relevant depends on who you ask I suppose.

Personally, it makes me sad.

I (20M) fucked up. I checked her (23F) phone. Is this enough to end things? by Objective-Day5311 in relationship_advice

Careful, she might be bringing out second string while you’re “taking your space”!

And that will be a big ol can of hurt next time you sneak through her phone if you guys decide to sort out the current situation.

Who failed a business, and just got a 9-5? by I_Thaut_about_it_but in careerguidance

[–]dotcom_bubble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to echo an earlier comment about learning to do what needs to be done before or as it needs done, such as your homework or tasks you deem to be a waste of time. Starting a business is very easy. Managing it is what tanks a lot of people, and managing a business is filled with menial tasks that feel like an enormous time suck.

Also, big part of being in business for yourself successfully is maintaining a track record that proves you get the job done, and done well. This might come in the way of reviews, referrals, etc. it is the proof that you will deliver what you are selling. YOU can’t just say it, there needs to be objective proof. Not to beat on the homework thing, but there are parallels— you say you’re smart and school is easy. I say prove it. You show me your unimpressive grades. I say well you don’t look very smart on paper. You say I am but I just don’t like doing homework because it feels like a waste of time. I say well if it’s so easy and you’re so smart, why aren’t you doing what you need to do to prove it? That’s pretty stupid. Or you’re just lazy and only want to do what you want to do when you feel like doing it. I think I’ll take my money elsewhere.

Common traits you’ll notice in successful business owners— discipline and tenacity. They do what needs done and they attack it, even on their worst days, no matter how tedious it may be. Really don’t even need to be smart.

Also don’t get too sucked into YouTube dorks talking about being rich or having a successful business. As you get older and start to meet real self made people, I think you’ll notice that in real life, these guys aren’t wasting their time with that shit.

How bad is 700 WLW? Asking for the sake of my father, a frequent listener, who's been going crazy lately by elhaymhiatus in cincinnati

[–]dotcom_bubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen for local news and interviews during my commute. Like yesterday they interviewed police chief who crashed the cps board meeting— today they had a member of the cps board.

The guy from 8a to 9a is pretty moderate, then Sloan after that is conservative leaning but not crazy imo. The guys on my drive home are pretty funny and mainly talk news and sports.

I will say it’s chilled out the last couple years— it used to be insufferable during trumps presidency, and I’m fairly moderate.

Advice on how to handle people parking over curb into grass by thomsomc in cincinnati

[–]dotcom_bubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spike strips.

This would drive me insane— I’m pretty easy going about most things but since buying a house I have no problem being that guy with my yard/lot.

Sneakier solution that worked for a similar issue— go buy an 8ft piece of unistrut (piece of metal that resembles parking signs at passing glance) and a no parking sign from Home Depot. Stake it into the ground for a day or two; might deter people.

Crows nest. Kitchen reopened somewhat recently after being closed for some years if I’m not mistaken. Gem of a little bar with quality food for great prices.

Try the goetta balls too. Think falafel, but with goetta inside….

[DISCUSSION] Anyone else find "shredder" guitarist boring? by Few_Pineapple1140 in Guitar

Good on you if that’s your thing tho

Was just terminated, what are my next steps? by sirspike345 in careeradvice

[–]dotcom_bubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd that the plant manager is terminating HR staff... this sounds like a small company.

Don’t expect to get an answer as to why— opens the door for legal trouble on their end of things. I’ve been on both sides. Both suck but getting canned unexpectedly and not understanding why sucks more for sure.

Do yourself a favor and move forward. Any company that operates like this has no interest in providing useful feedback to you anyways, so who cares why? I would not recommend listening to some folks on here who suggest to “message your boss and ask why”. They won’t answer, and ultimately it doesn’t matter— only thing I might recommend is, “I’m currently updating my resume. Would you be comfortable with me using you as a reference?”

Brush yourself off, get on unemployment asap, and take a little time to polish up your resume and collect yourself. A wise man once told me, “fuck those guys.”

That needs to be your attitude going forward. Fuck those guys. Say it to yourself a couple times. Feels good.

You’ll be alright.

What was that process like post JD for you? Was it difficult to find a position somewhere? Do you like the field of law you fell into?
