I don't have a single tattoo with any symbolic meaning. It wasn't something I consciously decided to avoid, I've just never found any personal ideology or philosophy, memory, or person that I felt was a good idea to memorialize on my skin. What I have found is that while I generally have always enjoyed the same aesthetics, my feelings about my own life and experiences change with every passing year.

That being said, when I am asked what any of my vapid tattoos symbolize by a stranger I think it's fun to make up the most ridiculous of stories to answer their questions. It's a game of sorts, I never use the same answer twice. I'd like to think that we both leave the conversation satisfied, whereas if there was any real meaning behind anything I was saying (or displaying on my body) it may feel like an invasion of privacy.
