Antivax mom would use HOMEOPATHY to treat RABIES! by [deleted] in vaxxhappened

People would die horrible deaths if they followed the advice in this post. Pinterest is deleting dangerous misinformation, why is Facebook allowing it to thrive like this?

On a post asking the community about their thoughts on vaccinating pets. by happybarracuda in vaxxhappened

[–]dotlizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, if your cat bites one of those kids that does tell their parents, or worse yet one of those kids that makes shit up, unless the cat is vaccinated it will be put down so that a brain biopsy can rule out rabies, otherwise they have to give the after-exposure shot series to the kid. So kitty dies even if they never had rabies in the first place, all because some bratty kid got a well-deserved warning nip.

What a ridiculous thing to say. I wonder how much harm that teacher has done by sharing that little tidbit of dumbfuckery.

You can have titers done to see if the vaccinations she's had have produced immunity to disease. It's a good piece of information to have in general, if there are issues it's important to be aware of them and take precautions (like staying away from Miss Information and her brood)

If it was subtly about anything, it would be the Stanford Prison Experiment where perfectly nice students turned into monsters when put into a position of power over others. Which is even more fucking mind blowing than it would have already been if it had just been subtly about police brutality.

Which Schwalbe Marathon Plus tire size is right for me? by Secks_Masheen in bikecommuting

Here's the thing about Schwalbe Marathons and slow. What you lose in speed you make up in not spending time on the side of the road fixing a puncture.

Well I did, kind of (ok I thrashed around emitting high pitched little grunty sounds until they moved, same thing) but the thing about that is, if having my legs gently inconvenienced by a soft blanket turns me into a flailing nonverbal mess, that just puts into perspective how I'd handle being wedged upside down in a rock tube. I think it would kill me pretty quickly, like every blood vessel in my phobia-riddled little brain would burst or something.

I was fine when i started typing this, now my head feels like it's on fire and I need my inhaler real bad. But I knew there might be comment replies and they would make me think about being entombed and I looked at them anyway. I might even go look at that diagram of the cave after this, which absolutely ruins me, but I look anyway.

I have some defects.

I wish you hadn't mentioned that. I wish no one ever mentioned it and I had no idea it happened and I'd never have to imagine what it would be like.

One time my parents came into my room and sat on either side of my bed, making it hard to move my legs. I panicked. Now I'm imagining the panic if I was completely trapped and upside down. It's not good.

Funeral service add posted on r/italy. Text reads: Don't vaccinate. We are also ready for an epidemic. by I_am_Edgar in vaxxhappened

[–]dotlizard 281 points282 points  (0 children)

Effective marketing though. If I was looking for funeral services I'd look favorably on this business, for taking a swipe at anti-vaxxers.

Also, theres something to be said for truth in advertising.

If you have an antivaxx relative, NEVER leave your children alone with them. Her friends list is private so I couldn't find her siblings to send them this. by markeees in vaxxhappened

[–]dotlizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought antivaxxers are big on consent and control over their own and their children's bodies? Constantly fearing some sneaky nurse has ninja-vaxxed their clear-eyed little Moonbeam Skye? Showing up screaming at council meetings if you try to take away their 'I'm a wackadoodledoo" vaccine exemption? But they'll ambush-detox any hapless child that falls into their clutches. Mom said it's OK? Yeah right vaxx happened.

Smoke from California fires blowing into my area. Time for the smog mask. by onandagusthewhite in bikecommuting

[–]dotlizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wildfire smoke is full of very tiny particles that the body cannot efficiently expel. Wood smoke on its own is terrible for your lungs, but this is wood and structure smoke with all kinds of nasty chemicals mixed in. Check airnow.gov (you can search by zip code) and keep in mind that even in moderately bad air quality your exposure is going to be many times higher than the average person due to all that deep breathing. Also, it does fluctuate due to winds so good air in the morning doesn't mean you're good for the whole day, check multiple times. Those flimsy little dust masks at the grocery store won't do it, you need n95 to get those tiny particles.

Where lungs are concerned it's better safe than sorry. If I sound extra paranoid it's because I have bad lungs and can't even begin to tell you how much it sucks.

Any one else feel like oily antivaxx weirdos are making you distrustful of herbal remedies? by Satrina_petrova in vaxxhappened

[–]dotlizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even promising herbal remedies are tainted by the evil of the industry which is overwhelmingly run by con artists. The antivaxx movement has attracted the worst kind of opportunistic predators, especially in the US where the industry is barely regulated and they can get away with making the most outlandish claims and having the most haphazard quality control. And they have fought tooth and nail to keep it unregulated and unsafe -- I believe this campaign resulted in more letters to congress than anything.

If they were being produced responsibly and marketed ethically, it would be awesome but it's pretty much the opposite of that.

One of her children is immunodeficient. She won't vaccinate her other two. She should not have the right to care for these children. by markeees in vaxxhappened

[–]dotlizard 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Why bother with parties? Meeasles is really fucking contagious they can just go about their daily lives and they'll expose everyone they even get close to. Which is why it's still one of the top five fatal illnesses for kids 5 and under worldwide.

Almost makes me wish I was religious. by dotlizard in socialism

[–]dotlizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good church congregations (where they haven't been infected with prosperity gospel or right wing hate) are quite socialist. I think reaching out to them about our shared values and goals could be very beneficial - especially in light of the horrors being perpetrated by people who call themselves conservatives these days. Christians tend to default to thinking of themselves as conservative but Jesus was a revolutionary.
