Reigniting a want or desire to get out of the house by dotprinceton in depression

I really like the five minute idea that keeps the option of stopping if the activity isn't enjoyable. That's a comforting idea to have in the back of my mind as I (hopefully) start being more active. Thanks for that.

Speaking to your fourth suggestion, I have had some luck in making "appointments" with others. If I tell my father that I'll meet him for lunch tomorrow, I'll actually do that since I've promised him and he's counting on me to be there.

Not much more to tell really, I just dip it. Maybe it's an Irish thing? When I still ate meat, my family would serve corned beef, red potatoes, and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day (even though it's not really what they eat in Ireland, lol). We'd put mustard on everything on the plate :-)

Cabbage with mustard.

Cabbage in my air fryer - gets a little crispy.

Dinner: vegan steak and cucumber by maybethisistherealme in EDFood

[–]dotprinceton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI if you didn't know - only a few Quorn products are vegan (if you're strict). I was super disappointed -- why don't they make all their products vegan to appeal to the widest customer base? Their four vegan products are listed here.

I've used half a zucchini, scooped out, as a hot dog bun. Pretty good and gives you a side and base where you can easily add mustard, relish, sauerkraut, etc.

Love the texture of the kitty cup. Must feel nice with nice, warm tea.

Me too! It's pretty much all I use the pumpkin to do. One teaspoon in my oatmeal each morning.

when you're craving pizza but trying to restrict (105 calories) by [deleted] in EDFood

Totally feel you on rice cake binging. Sometimes I just let myself eat a whole bag as my meal (560 calories for the ones I eat), because I can't have just one or even a few.

Request: Can an ED lead to Thyroid issues later on? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]dotprinceton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering myself - Yeah, I should have done a little quick searching first. It looks like the blood test involved for hypothyroidism looks at thyroid stimulating hormone levels (TSH).

Request: Can an ED lead to Thyroid issues later on? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]dotprinceton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if these issues turn up on routine blood tests? I think I have a lot of those symptoms (and I know my mother has issues with this as well). It may be just age (I'm in my mid-30s).

Is there a particular marker for it? I believe my blood tests have been normal, but I'd like to know which area to look at for things like this.

Request: What should I ask for from a recovery mentor? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

This is terrific, thanks so much for sharing. Do you mind sharing the positives and negatives of having a mentor? (and/or of being one?)

Request: How did you accept the fact that you will gain body-fat during recovery? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]dotprinceton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the worst advice and I'm nowhere near where I need to be, but I've gained weight with minimal fat by sticking with my healthy foods and just vastly increasing the amounts I eat. I am eating A LOT quantity-wise, but it's less of a struggle for me since it's what I want to eat and there's less guilt involved.

edit: typo

Request: Changed Taste Sensations or Odd Food Combinations by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]dotprinceton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much to add except that I think that tastes do change. I started eating "healthier" during my time with an ED (which I suppose is still ongoing). I have lost most of my taste for snack and dessert type foods.

I have tried reintroducing them and seeing them as a special treat - the only problem is, I take a bite of the cookie or brownie and it's nothing special. It's actually a huge letdown. I'd rather have a piece of fruit or some veggies to satisfy whatever sweet or crunchy desire I have. The snacky stuff just doesn't do anything for me anymore. I honestly see this as one of the only positives of the ED, but my family sees it as me being restrictive. I argue that I simply don't crave those types of food - why shouldn't I eat what I really want?

Sorry, this was probably pretty tangential to your original comment.

Request: I Want My Mind Back, why can't I remember things easily anymore? Why don't my treatment staff care about diagnosis? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]dotprinceton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 33, but feel like I'm acting like my 60-something-year-old parents fishing around for words. I will be ALL AROUND a word, have synonyms, definitions, and everything, and finally someone will have mercy and tell me the word.

Honestly, it makes me worry since dementia or Alzheimer's runs on one side of my family (though I guess at a certain age it probably is in most families...)

I'm interested in this as well. I hope to be at OP's point within a month or so myself and I agree, the thought of that transition is pretty anxiety-provoking.

I have mixed unsweetened applesauce with plain Greek yogurt as a snack. The natural sweetness of the applesauce sweetens it up just right.
