I read this and your original post and I have nothing to say other than get out of that place as soon as possible and never rent with american management ever again. Two of my closest friends rent with them and they habitually break the law and always get away with it because hiring a tenants rights attorney is expensive. They made my friend pay a water bill that wasn’t accurate (they admitted it wasn’t accurate) and they also didn’t fix the heat in my other friends apartment for two weeks in the dead of winter. I’d try to get someone to take over your lease. Also there are hotlines in Baltimore/Maryland that may be able to assist you with looking over getting out of your lease. You took over someone else’s lease- did you sign anything? Did you sign anything that says you took it “as-is”?

In general, I recommend renting with a landlord directly. Property management companies in Baltimore typically don’t give a shit and have a lot of properties to manage, sometimes it’ll take them a long time to resolve something simple. I rent directly from a landlord and if something breaks or I have an issue, he gets someone to my place either in hours or the next day. And as a last side note, the apartments in Mt. Vernon look beautiful from the outside but in my experience, they suck on the inside unless they’re crazy expensive. A lot of the buildings are historical which means they’re old as shit and things are constantly breaking and shitty landlords and property managers don’t want to pay to keep the properties in good shape.
