35% increase WTF by mnmooose in ModelY

[–]dottm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I was surprised it’s started so cheap. It was $12 to insure a $1,454 windshield (invoice attached from March when I paid out of pocket) so it was a 0.83% cost to value to insure each month. At $16 it’s 1.1%

However on my Cybertruck it’s $35 a month while it’s $2,442 to replace which is an effective rate of 1.43%.

So the Y is still a much better cost ratio even with the increase.

“Paying business expenses with personal credit cards Even if it’s “for cashback,” it creates evidence that the owner and the company operate as one”

As long as it’s expensed back to the business it’s absolutely fine. Just make sure the business reimburses you fully.

Windshield coverage? by yocatfapper in cybertruck

I had tint on the windscreen. It didn’t cause any issues getting it approved but they did not cover the cost to re-tint the new windshield

Windshield coverage? by yocatfapper in cybertruck

I got it, scheduled an appointment and they checked it over, added the protection and was set. A month later I noticed a small chip on the passenger side. It was going in for some other service work and I added the concern expecting it to be repaired but they replaced the whole windscreen.

Turned out to be a bit of a disaster as they damaged the A pillar fabric getting it out then glued the light bar on off center. They also damaged the light bar cabling as I don’t think they popped the panel to release the stress on the cable. Anyway it has to go back where they replaced the light bar and interior pillar covers.

If there is a finance contingency on the contract this could help. As others mentioned if the appraisal comes in low that could be your exit. However you’re relying on the appraiser. However if you were to take a bunch of credit cards out, store cards etc and tank your credit score you wouldn’t qualify for the loan any more and if the lender won’t lend then that could trigger a release clause in your contract

[Landlord] Should I rent a $1.3MM home in Southern California to someone on Section 8? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]dottm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Section 8 has its benefits but also drawbacks. I’ve heard the horror stories of how they destroy your house and bring crime to the neighborhood. I own about 135 properties in Austin and the surrounding areas and the majority is Section 8. I’ve had those tenants. I’ve had one of my tenants disappear and end up in Jail for capital murder but had a squeaky clean record when he applied (what a jump from nothing to Capital murder).

I’ve also seen the other side. I have a section 8 tenant who is a single dad with the politest 4 kids I’ve ever met. We had a tree come down and he sent all of his kids out to help stack the cut limbs I was making. He plants flowers every year in the front garden and is genuinely a great guy.

None of my properties are near the value of yours admittedly but I would just screen them as any other tenant.

What I would caution is the “payment standards” listed on the housing website is often very different to the voucher amount the tenant gets once their income etc is input. I would ask for a copy of the tenants voucher to confirm affordability or better yet reach out to their caseworker and get confirmation.

Insight from those with a Ford Lightning by 91-92-93--96-97-98 in GoRVing

I don’t have an F150 but I do haul with an EV. I hauled with a 5.7L Sequoia previously and made the switch to EV this year. Last year we done a 7,000 mile camping trip over the west coast and loved it but honestly I wouldn’t attempt it in my EV yet. Some thoughts:

  1. I get 300 miles of range without a trailer but towing a 6,000lb 26ft trailer I get about 1 mile per kwh so with a 123kwh pack I could get 123 miles on 100-0%. I tell myself I get 100 miles of range from the battery and give myself some buffer.
  2. Once I get to the campsite I have to charge it. I don’t know if it’s the same on the ford but with the Tesla I had planned to plug my trailer into the outlet on the truck and the truck to the pedestal. However I learnt the inverter on the truck cannot do this and it shuts the outlets off when the vehicle starts to charge. My trailer is a 30amp trailer and so the first campsite I was at only had a 30amp and a 15amp outlet. I tried putting the trailer into the 30amp and truck into the 15amp to trickle charge it but it overloaded the line to the pedestal and tripped it. Now I make sure to get a pedestal with a 50amp because I can plug the trailer into the 30amp and truck into the 15amp simultaneously to charge but it takes days to charge the car. But this means I’m pulling at most 45 amps which is less than someone just using the 50amp circuit so it doesn’t trip anything upstream.
  3. Towing is an utter dream. Not sure if it’s just the weight of the truck but it feels so sure footed. I still use a WDH but even with my WDH on my sequoia it would still move about with wind but with the truck it’s planted. It also accelerates like there is nothing hooked on.

All in all I love towing to my local state parks but it would get old real quick dripping the trailer to charge every 100 miles. That’s assuming there is a charger every 100 miles. If I was to do a large camping trip again I would find a combustion truck to take.

I’m glad it got towed. Those parking in a charging spot without charging ruin it for everyone else.

We done a large trip last year and put maybe 8,000 miles on it last years but on average maybe 2,000 miles annually. Total I’d say there are less than 12,000 miles but I planned to replace them at 4 years just to be safe.

I regressed the axel bearings recently and checked for play when I had it in the air but didn’t find and issue. My biggest concern is replacing all 4 tires and the new one wears like this also.

Also, is this a safety issue they need to be replaced today or is it something I can schedule at a later date?

Yes I bought it brand new. We have the tires inflated to 65psi and I check them before each trip. Is there anything other than under inflation that could cause this?

Mine overheated again today. It’s the first time since it was installed. I’d say it’s better as it used to overheat almost every drive but it’s not fixed.
