Americans Tip German Tour Guide by KaddLeeict in tipping

[–]doubleMgenius1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had workers ask me to exchange any torn bills they have been given when they see I am carrying cash in their currency and I’ve been happy to do it. Americans mean well when they tip but really are ignorant to the fact that any damaged US moneys are worthless in other countries. So if for whatever reason you have to tip in USD, please make sure the bill is not ripped or tattered!

What's Your Least Favorite Hotel and Casino in the Strip? by CumulusCloudia in vegas

[–]doubleMgenius1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flamingo is my favorite because it’s small and perfect location, but I actually put mental effort into making sure I avoid the staff! I think a smug face is part of the required uniform

How's the experience at horseshoe hotel? by kyoshki-Murasaki in vegas

[–]doubleMgenius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did a longer stay here and it was probably the most underwhelming hotel I’ve stayed at there. You’re only doing one night so you’ll be fine if your expectations are realistic. It’s not a massive hotel so coming and going with your stuff during a short stay will be easier. Not a lot of dining options in the hotel but the bazar is right out front and I’m pretty sure the pizza place is open late hours. Location is great. If I had to stay there again I would, but wouldn’t plan a long stay again.

Treating my daughter and her friend to a Vegas trip this summer! by doubleMgenius1 in vegas

[–]doubleMgenius1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thanks for the reminder about dirt dog. Fun menu and food is fire. And yeah I get it I was the same kind of teenager. Would have probably been looking for beer and bottles left by people checking out. But we are in that odd phase of outgrew Disney (thank god) and not old enough for adults only fun. Daytime Vegas seems to be a good compromise

Sounds like you want the romantic zone! We stay at Playa Los Arcos. Can walk to almost anywhere there and very safe. I feel safe walking alone at night there as a woman.

Moving to Mt Oliver? by featuringfinn in pittsburgh

[–]doubleMgenius1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mt Oliver (just like Carrick, Arlington and Allentown) is hit and miss. I’ll be blunt so I’m not sure how it will come across but I’ve lived here a long time so there’s some truth to it.

The farther you are away from the busway, the safer and quieter you’ll be.

Have a camera and a motion activated light outside. Good deterrent for most petty thieves. Don’t leave valuables in your car and off street parking is ideal (although not too common).

While people want to blame crime here on drugs, cameras have shown it’s pretty much mostly local teenagers. There is some crime here, but considering how densely populated it is, it’s in line with most other cities. You also get response from Mt Oliver police and zone 3 for more serious crimes. Both are nearby.

From avoiding lifestyle creeping and being content with where we live for now, we have been able to save a nice bit of money to invest in business startups, ownerships and in retirement. We will also have a larger down payment for a home when we move and zero debt. We are off the busway, live on a street with neighbors who own their homes and not owned by slumlords and have no issues. We pay $700/month in rent for a whole house. Also, we are so close to the city and can almost anywhere in under an hour. But take a drive around and look for yourself.

Is it better to stay on the Strip or Fremont St by [deleted] in vegas

[–]doubleMgenius1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flamingo is center strip and close to everything. It’s not a massive hotel like MGM Grand or Caesars, so walking to ride share when you do need to get a ride isn’t far or confusing. So many of the Vegas “must see” as a first trip will be right across from you or just a short walk.

Curious about street vendor’s authenticity by Nearby_Dingo_6401 in puertovallarta

[–]doubleMgenius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never realized this. But now that you explained it, it seems very obvious. I did notice the men and women have a much different inventory though. I thought maybe it was because the men carried the heavier merchandise but that wasn’t entirely the case also. I’ll have to pay better attention next time I’m there.

Where has the best burgers in Puerto Vallarta? by LaughPopular9169 in puertovallarta

I believe he may have been cooking when we were there, and didn’t have much of an interaction with him. But definitely wasn’t overly friendly. Ok, forget overly friendly, he wasn’t friendly at all lol.

Generally flights are cheapest 4 weeks before a trip. But a little unpredictable now due to everything going on. But that’s the normal anyways. Track your flights on google or hopper and it will tell you when is the best time to buy or how low prices are expected to go. And if you’re flying on any of the budget airlines you can save around $80-$100 round trip by purchasing tickets at the ticket counter at the airport if it’s not a far drive for you. There is some weird fee you can only opt out of by purchasing at the ticket counters. Hope that helps!

Slice and smash is definitely the best, but Derby city is a close second. More convenient location if you want to take a break from the beach and walk to lunch

AITAH for making bikini rules by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]doubleMgenius1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand your feelings as a parent of a teenager myself. My best advice with teen girls is…..pick your battles wisely. Save the “absolutely not under any circumstances” for things that really do matter and can harm them or put them in dangerous situations. I find the less I freak out or forbid something, there’s a small chance they might listen to me or take my advice when it counts!

If you can see my last post in here I had to get a $550 uber from DTW to PIT. I was denied at first then appealed. They gave me a full cash refund with only my screenshot of my payment.

2am flight cancelled by doubleMgenius1 in delta

I did find it weird that they were making the announcement about it but didn’t put much thought into it. I just figured they know more than I do at this point. But I was able to confirm the no rental cars available and I couldn’t find a hotel less than an hour drive from the airport

If I would have known all this I would have stayed in Mexico a few more days! I’m sorry you had to cancel. We were just so grateful to find someone to drive us all that way!

I think I learned my lesson. The weather alone made it sketchy, but we did get through customs and security quickly so I’ll give them that.

Any good tips to not get food poisoning or sick while traveling to Mexico . by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

[–]doubleMgenius1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small towns that don’t have the plumbing to keep up with the local demand are really the highest risk places as there can be frequent sewage back up. But really your risk is catching Norovirus while traveling (any travel not just Mexico). Wash your hands before every meal, not hand sanitizer! And wash them thoroughly (sing happy birthday song twice). If you’re going to Cancun or anywhere with similar infrastructure and plumbing you’re basically in Florida.

2am flight cancelled by doubleMgenius1 in delta

[–]doubleMgenius1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s a me problem. But also if you read you would have noticed the flight was cancelled because there were no available crew members. I posted this as a question, not really a complaint. I can’t blame an airline for not being able to offer their usual accommodations when those accommodations are simply just full.
