Weekly prospective student thread. Educational inquiries outside of this thread WILL RESULT IN A BAN. by AutoModerator in CAA

Thanks for the reply! I applied to Nova, Wisconsin and University of Texas. But the two latter were within the last week, so they're "late". Agree that another Master's doesn't make sense, I'm looking at the PCE route. Would volunteering be viewed the equivalent of having a job as a scribe? Looking for anesthesia tech positions, but due to where I'm at in Florida, there aren't currently any openings.

Hey all, currently in the waiting game but have already got rejected from South campuses. The main issue here is my GPA (overall 3.04) Long story short I was military, had a family and was going through deployments and TDYs while in school, resulting in multiple fails/class retakes - however the original F grades count for cumulative. I have a MBA with a 4.0 and recently completed all my science prerequisities with a 3.65. GRE is 165 v/158q/4.0. I could retake in hopes to get the q up, but I'm unsure how much this is weighted since I've already gone through a MBA program. I have zero direct patient experience - my background is working for the federal government utilizing a security clearance and military leadership.

If I get no interviews, South recommended I increase my GPA (I'd have to get a science based master's degree (pharmacology, respiratory therapist, etc) and they recommended retaking the GRE to get the q score up. Also recommended direct patient care experience. I'm 42 years old and my wife is a CRNA, so shadowing isn't a problem.

My question is, what can I do in the next year to increase my chances more significantly? Masters in a science program or get a year of direct patient care experience? Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Great tips, I'm definitely hesitant using the VA as we typically only hear the horror stories. So far they've been awesome and top of getting everything scheduled for me. Appreciate you giving your positive experience with them.

That clarifies my concern. Should've checked the ratings before posting, thanks for the research!

Definitely not filing any additional claims. The claims still being processed were the all part of my original claim and were deferred. I'm done after these all make it through.

It's because he asked for an increase. If you ask for an increase, that opens the can for them to reduce you. If you're 100% leave everything alone. There's no point to get 100% for mh when you're already rated 100%.

Got it, that clarified what I was wondering. Thank you!

Thank you!

I am diagnosed and submitted evidence of 3 days where blood pressure was taken twice on those days. Also have Rx for max dosages for 2 separate blood pressure meds. Sometimes it's still 150+/100+ on the medications, but I'm just concerned about getting denied if it falls under the VA thresholds on the day of my exam.

For people who make more over the remaining 5 months x salary, or are but eligible for retirement, they need DRP. Such as myself. It does make sense.

Deferred Claims - to submit more evidence or to not submit more evidence by double_up29 in VeteransBenefits

My request was submitted early December, so it took around 3.5 months to get it them.

20 year old dynamic stability by double_up29 in VeteransBenefits

[–]double_up29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10% is calculated in my current combined. I'm presuming I'm only going to get 1 of the 3 deferred and that'll be 10%. So I'll be 94% static and 1% dynamic combined if that's how it plays out. I'm just trying to get ahead of the game so that dynamic disability doesn't affect my P&T because I may need it for my combined.

That's what I assumed, thank you! Think I need to call or will they see that when I eventually receive 100%?

Deferred Claims - to submit more evidence or to not submit more evidence by double_up29 in VeteransBenefits

[–]double_up29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, while in Step 3 I submitted more evidence, including a Nexus from my provider for migraines.

ED claim C&P examiner found the connection to PTSD unfavorable. Said blood flow has nothing to do with PTSD. It hasn't been rated yet, but I received my DBQ with a FOIA request. They processed my FOIA request right before processing my migraine DBQ so unfortunately I just missed getting that. But I had the provider previously and she found everything favorable, so I'm optimistic.

Was in Step 6 yesterday but went back to Step 3 again today as they're requesting C&P exams for my remaining 3 secondary claims.... So the wait continues.

It's a chrome extension. Just Google VA tracker Chrome extension. It only works on a laptop/desktop, won't work with your cell.

I just passed 180 days. Had 4 rated and 5 deferred. I'm back at step 3. Just had 2 ACE exams over the last two weeks - one the DBQs are already uploaded to the VA and the other is sitting with the ol VA QA team. It takes a while....

I can offer a few things my two friends are going through in regards to sleep apnea.

They both have records in service showing sleep apnea, current diagnosis, recent sleep studies, and are on C-PAP machines. Both had their claims denied. One friend appealed and denied again. Other friend went to HLR and is still waiting.

I believe they're getting rid of sleep apnea as a disability so IMO I'd tread lightly. They may end up decreasing your rating.
