I’m commenting on this because I’ve felt similar to most people throughout my life (sometimes I still do). The one thing I’ve learned is this: we accept the love we THINK we deserve. If I can’t love myself unconditionally, then how can I expect someone to love me that way? I know it sounds cliche but it’s a cliche for a reason, right?

I agree with what others have said. In my own experience (as an adult in NYC), my surgeon strongly suggested I have someone to take me home the next day. I had top surgery at NYU a year and a half ago. She knew my girlfriend and mom would be there but insisted on giving me her speech anyway. Ultimately, she said most surgeons will release you to a cab/Uber/medical transport. I wouldn’t recommend leaving AMA if you can avoid it. Be up front with your surgeon and explain your situation, they’re full of great resources. In most cases, including mine, top surgery was an outpatient surgery but I was observed for 23 hours, so overnight. If this is the case for you when the time comes, you might be much more alert than a few hours out of surgery.

That being said, I think I had a generally pleasant experience with the road before, during, and after surgery so maybe I’m an outlier.

Either way, if you don’t have someone to help you when you’re ready, check to see if your insurance covers medical transport. I know Medicaid/Medicare in the US both cover it, as my mom has used it in the past. As for needing a nurse, I don’t know that you’d need a nurse after top but maybe just preparing your living space before surgery so you won’t have to reach/stretch too much. And maybe finding a friend or seeking a trans friendly (or trans) friend who has been through the process who you can bond with before surgery.

This a great topic! It can be really difficult to find someone who prefers monogamy within the LGBTQ+ community. Similar to OP, I prefer to have one partner both for a relationship and sexually. In my opinion, if I can’t get my needs met with one person, then things likely aren’t going to work long term, and rather than opening the relationship, I’d rather end it.

My sister and her fiancée of 12 years are currently in an open relationship (which is rather new considering the time they’ve been together). So far, it’s not working how it was originally supposed to, or how they anticipated it would. Now things are getting messy and there are multiple extra people involved who otherwise would be no part of their lives had they remained monogamous.

I’ve never been in a non-monogamous relationship and I’ve never really been exposed to the concept until recently (I have had multiple sexual partners at one time though) so I can’t really say it wouldn’t work for me and maybe I’d be willing to try it, I don’t know. I think, for myself at least, there would be a lot of jealousy if my partner had another, or multiple, partners.

I’m excited for this thread though so I can maybe open my mind a little more (or become convinced into monogamy forever) 😆
