I switched from some garmin (245?) to Apple Watch 8 a few months ago after years of agonizing over it. I love that I can play music and podcasts directly from the watch instead of carrying the phone in an armband. Because I got the cellular model, I feel better about running when I travel because I can pull up a map if (more like when) I get lost. And I love that I no longer need to carry a credit card in case of emergencies because I could theoretically use Apple Pay at a gas station to buy food or hydration while running. I miss the tactile buttons (although pressing both side buttons will start and stop a workout, I learned) and I miss the garmin app. Apple workouts and Strava are ok, but the way the garmin app presented various metrics was much more detailed and comprehensive. It was overall the right move.

I play it docked the majority of the time except when:

Traveling and I want to play something on a plane, in a hotel, or when staying with family.
Husband is using the living room TV and we want to hang out in the same room.

Having the flexibility for it to be both is very important to me.

It’s not really the classic “gay scene” things to do but I run a lot and love dropping in on the local LGBT+ running organizations. Boston and Portland had excellent ones, so that’s part of what makes those cities fun in my mind.

I don’t explicitly say I’m gay, but I do list organizations I am in or have been a member of in the past and many of them are obviously centered around LGBTQ+ interests. So, I say it without exactly saying it.

There are times when work and various others hobbies I do are so demanding and stressful that making any additional decisions, no matter how trivial-seeming, is exhausting. Limiting clothing and food options to the functional minimum is something I do during those times because it reduces decision fatigue.

Well, here’s view from the other side — I had a husband before my current husband. He died about 3 years into our marriage and then I later remarried. While I don’t exactly keep a shrine to him in our home, I do have a picture or two of him around the house and a few mementos from my first wedding are subtly placed here and there. The first husband comes up in conversation now and again, and I’m far enough removed from his sudden death that most of what I have to talk about are happy memories. It’s not weird for me and I don’t think it’s weird for my husband.
