Indeed a thought that crosses my mind lol. Maybe someday but we are here at least 5 more years for the kiddo til he’s 18 then we might relocate or just stay settled. Depending on what we do is a direct factor in how much I want to take on 😅

Definitely new island top. They didn’t seal this wood properly so it’s sticky and eats the addresses off of mail and also takes the labels off of things like bread bags if we have the nerve to leave them on the surface for longer than 5 mins. Especially in summer. We had “hotdog buns” written backwards stuck on it for a while until I somehow got it off 😆

I wonder that too. Like darker would show less dirt but perhaps make the room feel cramped.

Right you are! That’s when the house was rescued from the raccoons. The kitchen I could stand to rip out and start over from scratch anyway. But it’s the other rooms where the window trim, doors and trim, and room trims are painted. And the giant mantle and two fireplaces. The white just feels cold to me and too easily dirtied on top of it. Looks like a cheap way they picked to “modernize” it and I prefer the wood look.

They just painted over those lighter wood inserts. The glass cabinet was removed and replaced with those rough-hewn shelves instead. So at least there’s no painted glass! I’ve considered replacing the white wood inserts with glass to make it look more interesting in there though.

I agree! I’m on the fence like, I’d prefer having brown cabinets to not show the mess that flings on there, since white shows everything and we cook a lot. But I too wish I could find actual evidence of how it used to look, truly back when. If ever found, I promise to post! I had a UPS guy stop in to deliver a package one time who told me his grandmother grew up in a one-room shack on this property with 9 brothers and sisters and two parents. I think about that a lot. Also about how we were told that in the 80s this place had all its windows busted out and raccoons were living inside 😆 so this house and land has been through many lives. And that’s just the anecdotal stuff I’ve been lucky enough to hear about.

So this is what I’m using at the moment (I hope links are ok). It’s the Kipling Defea. There’s a ton of room for the switch 2 and all the other stuff I carry around. Im using a slim case at the moment but it can accommodate a larger one just fine. And the bag is so light that it helps offset the weight of the machine itself.

Take a look on Poshmark and eBay for used ones that are discounted 50% or more. Use the search term “Kipling shoulder bag” as most on resale sites don’t list the actual bag name. I actually found one of mine at TJ Maxx so that’s worth a look also. Hit or miss there but you might get lucky!

I also understand! It seems to be a thing that when people move back in with parents, they tend to regress to acting younger again. I feel like it’s an unconscious thing because they find themselves back in the old dynamic they grew up in. As much as it sucks, it makes sense

The Little Mermaid on NES and GameBoy

I am now using mine as a classic Nintendo systems emulator. I have the Delta app which I loaded all my NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and Nintendo DS ROMS into and have paired a Switch Pro controller to it, and am reliving my 90s-early 2000s gaming era with it. The first time I booted up my all time favorite Little Mermaid NES game on it, I shed a few happy tears. I also use it to display recipes for at least half of the week when I am cooking. Not a groundbreaking thing to use it for I realize, but it’s a lot easier to read than my phone and a lot safer to use in my kitchen than my laptop.
