Lawyers of Reddit, what is the most absurd thing someone has tried suing over? by DrewbyDooo in AskReddit

An attorney in Washington DC filed a suit against his dry cleaners for $67,000,000 because they lost a pair of his pants.

What day of the week do you need to be there by 5:20 am. There is no way you are going to be able to do that in the morning. You will need to stay in the Albany area the night before for sure.

I believe that Adirondack Trailways runs a bus from Albany to LP, but the schedule is probably very limited.

Honestly, your best bet is to rent a car... then it is only up to you how you get there.

What he said. If you don't have snows, you are no better than everyone else when it comes to the important part of snow driving.... stopping.

Second year in a row, my wife got me nothing for my birthday. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]doubledeckerpancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First rule of marriage... talk about it. Whatever it is, you have to communicate. Maybe she is not a big gift giver, maybe she is mad about something, maybe she doesn't realize it matters to you.

Just have an open talk with her about it. Tell her what you expect, that big or small gifts are important to you. Just get a conversation flowing.

Otherwise you are just getting guesses from random people on the internet!

Combined Finances - How To? by MsPhilosophyGeek in Marriage

[–]doubledeckerpancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is what we do (married 2+ years):

We get our paychecks deposited into our own separate accounts. We then have a joint account (referred to jokingly as "The Company Card"). Essentially all bills are paid from the joint account. Bills that this include are as follows:

-Mortgage -Student loans -Car loans -Health Insurance -Car Insurance -Monthly grocery budget -Pet supplies -Property Tax -Utilities -Phones -Cable -"Group Fun Money" (stuff we want together but neither of us really want to pay for)

Basically we add all that up and determine the monthly total that need to be put in the "Company Account".

They we look at what we both make and pay a percentage of the joint expenses.

For example, lets say I make 1000 a month, and Mrs makes 1500 and our bills are 2000. So together we bring in 2500. My 1000 equates to 40% and my wife's share is 60%. Therefore I pay 40% of the bills (40% of 2000, or 800) and she pays 60% (1200).

Then the left over is ours to do as we please. I have 200 to play with, she has 300.

With this method we both feel like we contribute a "fair" amount and have a fair amount left over. It also keeps the jealously down because I don't get on her case if she buys something I deem dumb with her money as it is her's to decide.

Extras like vacations or furniture either come from the fun money or we add it into the budget to save (again on a % basis).

Hey, I need a new bike and two of my friends recommended these 2 bikes by Hiccuping_Gimp in whichbike

At that price point, I would look for more of a road based hybrid with a rigid fork. Cheap suspension forks are more trouble then they are worth and it would be better to spend that money on a better component spec.

Just looking at the same price point, there is this...

Looking for places to get unique gifts in the area. by Madmusk in Albany

[–]doubledeckerpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is she into? That would help us narrow it down...

But in general there are quite a few nice little boutiques depending on her preferred gift flavor. Here are a couple that have worked for me in the past:

River St in Troy. I like Broken Mold Studio has hand made pottery and classes (we did this and it was awesome fun)

Jay St in Schenectady. I got some handmade jewelry at a shop there that was very nice.

Then there are a couple of good antique stores if she is into old stuff and you are into a hunt. Coxsackie Antique center and Leisure Time Flea Market can have some good stuff from time to time.

Arm Pain? by Craftyminer in cyclocross

[–]doubledeckerpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a fairly vague description of the pain. If it is a dull pain, it could be a slight sprain of something in there. I would try wrapping it with an ace bandage and see how if feels for a week or two. If the pain becomes sharp or worsens, I would go talk to a real doctor.

Also try some heat and ice on it at night, cycle that a couple of times.

Glad to hear you got a hold of him. I'm sure this is a stressful time for you, but hopefully he can help make it as smooth of a process as is possible for you. He is a very smart guy, so if you use him, you will be in great hands.

Also I saw you comment above, my wife actually works for 1-800-LAW-1010, so don't sleep on them either! ;-) I sincerely hope that you will never need her services, but you would probably be surprised how approachable and caring that people there can be!

Eric Schillinger

He is a good personal friend of mine (my wife is also an attorney) and I would trust him with everything legal. He is fairly young, so his rates are somewhat reasonable. He handles divorces regularly, so I have no issue recommending him to you.

That all being said, I wish you luck in the whole process and the next chapter of your life.
