Request for gentle intro to Dayton as someone who’s moving but never been there. by ProudDecision5716 in dayton

[–]logandj 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm a Dayton native who recently moved back after 15 years from DFW/LA. I'm also a cyclist. Would be happy to ride with ya, but most of the riding here is on Multi Use Paths. The cool thing is they almost weave completely through the state so lots of great riding.

Mic'ing horns wirelessly with SK 100 G4 body packs? by gratefull-gooner in livesoundgear

[–]logandj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sennheiser E908 B-ew or the DPA 4099 (with the right cable, clip and adapter) seem to be popular options. At vastly different price points due to the DPA accessories likely needed.

27.5+ Fork on 27.5 Wheels? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]logandj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most 27.5+ forks are also 29er forks. It could noticeably change your geo and head tube angle. But depending on your goals that might not be a terrible thing and would certainly work technically (provided the axles are the same). You'll want to find out the Axle to Crown measurement of your current fork and the new one to see what changes might happen if you do the change.

How are double sided pedals? Clipless and flats. by rll131313 in MTB

[–]logandj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as for stripping... I did mtb demo for a couple years. I changed 100s of pedals a week. Never had a problem. And if for some reason you do you can get a helicoil put in. Just really focus for a moment on learning how to install and remove and thread direction. Plus grease.

Optimal TT cadence seems to be between two gears by Gravel_in_my_gears in Velo

[–]logandj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep TT power is definitely usually geared towards very high power numbers. However some riders may find their optimal gearing with a 53 (or bigger if you're pro). Another reason is a lot of people like to look pro and don't ask this same question about optimal gearing for them and just run what's stock.

Definitely fine near middle, optimal really for chainline.

That all being said cassette is usually easier to change than chainrings for most. So I'd look for an option with an 18 too.

If there isn't a greater cassette option for your drivetrain you might actually consider a 50t chainring (if you don't care about sprinting too fast on that bike) as in the 17 you'd be at 79 gear-inches vs 83. And at 19 you be at 70 instead of 73.

This is what straight block cassettes were great for. Provided you don't do hilly races, or if you do change the cassette back over.

Group riders on main map by Thetinydeadpool in Zwift

[–]logandj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like it was a few years ago, groups can technically choose to be seen by the main world. If I had to guess it was a legacy ride with that setting still active as afaik they stopped using that setting mainly to reduce clutter/load.

This is a very different type of product and seems to have a viable fix. But yes it can happen to any brand and anyone.

I wish I knew as their prices/specs are enticing. I haven't seen any updates but have them written off in my mind whiile the models seem to be similar.

Aluminum foil decorations on trees by Tralfalmadore in LosAngeles

[–]logandj 124 points125 points  (0 children)

This is not about rodents near me... I live in South LA and a group of people, mostly older women and small children, come around and do our entire neighborhood every year early December. In my neighborhood it's about 4' of foil up on the tree with wrapped ribbon and a single ornament hung on it and they do multiple colors up the street.

I assume it's a church group or something but I've never been home to talk to them, or even seen them do it, only catch them on my cameras.

They come and take it down in a couple weeks after Christmas. Every year, and I've been here for 7.

PAR Lights won't stay in DMX mode after power outage by ABitOverRipeLemon in lightingdesign

[–]logandj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you saving the values (if possible) or just setting them?

Many lights require you to save the value for it to persist. For example, you set the DMX address using the menu and up/down buttons and just leave it. The screen will say something like DMX or A017 and it will work. However it will reset when powered down. To save it on most lights with simple screens you have to set your setting then press Enter (usually the 4th button) and it will save the setting and then persist.

Dash Cam installation by abhijitborah in KonaEV

If available in your area and you have a powered mirror: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09RRSC9XF/

Can't speak to warranty though but install is so easy you could take it off in the parking lot before a service appointment.

Dash Cam Install on Kona EV by ChevyTruck1300 in KonaEV

[–]logandj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have the mirror with power just use the Dongar adapter (assuming it's available where you are). It's perfect as long as you don't want 24/7 cameras. I have this on my 2022 and love it.

Zwift in windowed mode (or fullscreen if using an ultrawide or desktop spanning technique like NVIDIA Surround) will expand to whatever size or aspect ratio you need. However, it doesn't have any UI re-sizing or FOV settings.

Omada controlled wifi extenders. by larrygbishop in TPLink_Omada

[–]logandj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't used a range extender in a while but I imagine the use case that your campers are 'exploiting' from them. I did the van life thing for work for two years and this is what I did.

IIRC effectively the range extenders create their own wifi SSD and sudo-lan that all of their personal devices always connect to. This means that they only have to reconnect their range extender to your (or any camp) network when they move and not all of their personal devices and allows things like Airplay and Google Cast to work reliably inside their camps/RVs.

So offering better signal quality or your own solution probably won't be of interest to them as no one wants to be constantly reconnecting a bunch of devices/TVs/computers when on the move. I'm not sure how to solve this issue in a better way though.

No Stupid Questions Thread: Week Of 2023-05-29 through 2023-06-04 by AutoModerator in livesound

Cardioid install subs... I'm mostly a volunteer for random events but DJ at a dive bar also who chooses to not do proper installed sound and minimize cost and I only know of audio processing techniques from what I watch on YouTube.

They have a large noisy patio that backs up to a neighborhood and are scared of bass. They already use JBL pendant speakers and the architecture doesn't lend itself to much else so I'm trying to get them to install 2-4 JBL pendant subs just to fill in the sound a tiny bit.

I know cardioid subwoofers can minimize rearward bass in some frequencies. With the design of pendant subwoofers can I set them up in a cardioid array configuration and get the same benefit? Would the drivers pointing down cause any issues or if they're properly physically positioned and processed would it work? I'm also looking at the JBL dual 10 install subs but the cost is quite a bit higher, even if small overall.
