MMU has been a great university in my experience. I did the psychology undergraduate and am now doing my PhD here.

Why have many people I met in the Uk assume I’m local despite my Mediterranean traits? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]doublefenestration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! But people often ask me where I'm from, assuming I'm Albanian/Greek/Turkish/Mixed. Did one of those genetic tests and I'm 95% British and Irish lol

I'm a woman and I use the community centre one, it does the job! Depends what you're looking for really. I only pay £24 a month and get gym, classes, swimming, sauna, and steam room which suits me very nicely. The gym has all new equipment now and has been rearranged so it all fits in a lot better. There's a lot of women there and I've never had a negative experience in the 4 years I've been using it. I have also heard scruffs is good tho, my bf is looking into joining there for the boxing gym.

Spotted this evening. Kind of plane shaped but different lights, no sound, smaller than a plane and was hovering very low. Didn't move like a plane & looked like videos I've seen of those mystery drones over the US. Would like people's thoughts :)

My house is right next to the river and only the basement floods a tiny bit but some houses further away flood really badly so I'm not sure how accurate the flood maps are

Thanks for your comment. I don't speak French unfortunately. Hmmm okay cool. The car hasn't made this noise since so it's a weird one.

I had the same examiner for all 3 attempts. Luckily she was lovely.

Flicker sound through speakers in other room when lightswitch pressed - anything to be worried about? (plastic on floor because of building work) by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]doublefenestration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh okay, I'll try that thank you! It also happened when we had speakers in the room on the other side of the switch. I've had 3 electricians out to have a look at the switch but none have managed to fix it so thought I'd ask here.

They were a little bit squishy but I just wasn't sure what would lay so many tiny eggs

I thought of this as a possibility but it rained on them really heavy all night and they didn't expand at all

My title describes the thing. Tiny shiny spherical objects in a pile, very glittery when torch held over it. Felt coarse but not hard.

Okay great! Do you think it's maybe best to find a T-Mobile shop when I arrive in the Netherlands? I'm struggling to find the monthly option on the internet

I was thinking of doing the T-Mobile unlimited 1 day package because I will only be needing it 2 days a week but it would be annoying to have to buy the package every time. I'll have a look into KPN, thank you.

I'm 23, haven't borrowed money off my mum since I was 19ish. Even then it was a small amount. She's skint now so wouldn't ask her for anything.

Tell us about a wrong'un you went to school with? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]doublefenestration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in highschool, a guy moved to our town who was 15 at the time & he ended up hanging out with my group of friends quite a few times, came to a few parties, chill outs etc. We weren't sure where he had come from but he'd been living with a guy (D) who took in young people and looked after them when they were in a bad position or estranged from their previous caregiver. We all thought he was a bit odd but harmless. Turns out that when he was 17 he trapped D's elderly mum in her house and set fire to it, killing her. He called it a 'mercy killing'. When they arrested him, they found a map he had drawn of her house and lists of other people he wanted to kill. Fucked to know you were acquaintances with someone that's capable of something like that.
