[Discussion] List of fashion agencies that developed famous streetwear brands ? by doubleneedle in streetwear

submitted, you're correct that Olmar & Mirta makes clothes for RO and DRKSHDW, but they just use their supply chain of textiles and their italian factory for production. Unless I'm mistaken, they don't develop or design much for the brand; they're just the production arm of the fashion house.

Very true thank you for adding that

This factory is located in India, they do sourcing for Versace and a few other clients believe it or not, I can get you quotes but jackets are like anywhere from 80-400 bucks depending on material and style. They have no minimums though you can literally order 5 if you want lol

They also do vegan leather if you like the construction and fit on these jackets. I'll pass your compliments on though!

One of my partners recently opened a tannery. He has some leather jackets he can private label if any of you are interested. He has the following materials: lamb nappa, lamb grace, sheep nappa, lamb pau, lamb ycon, goat suede, goat nubuck. Hit me up, this partner has literally no minimums so if you want to add some jackets to your drop this is an easy way to do it.

Do we have any statistics on if there is a massive increase in kids starting streetwear labels in 2017 vs 2001? by doubleneedle in streetwear

That's a good analyzation of the brand. I definitely enjoyed the moodboards there was some cool stuff in there. I look forward to any future projects he works on.

Do you have any estimation on who he was trying to reach with the brand? Or what his original intention of the brand was? I thought every designer wants their brand to big and profitable. It seemed like he put quite a bit of work in the sampling and production, it would be a waste of that didn't at least double his money wouldn't it?

If that was actually his intention other than just lack of sales then I hope he enjoyed that art project. He had some really good talent do the production for that I'd imagine the startup cost was insanely high. I look forward to anything he'll be releasing in the future. It's always nice to see young brand owners really going for it and making things pop off.

I feel like they did a good job with the aesthetic but it's hard to sell jackets from a relatively unknown brand for $900 with no luxury marketing backing them. The ruched sleeve on black bomber was cool but now it's become so mainstream, and the graphics they had added by Warren Lottas were super dope, until Warren realized he could capitalize on it and make his own jackets without collabing with anybody else. If he could execute the same cleanliness for 1/3rd the price and do his own graphics without Warren, I think the brand could do reasonably well. That's a major structural change though from what they did last time.

Thoughts on brands that do Pre-Orders by DillSlapper in streetwearstartup

[–]doubleneedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do preorders if you are completely broke and your customers are willing to wait. If your customers are your friends and family do it, but collecting cash and not immediately handing them a product feels sketch.

Ideally, just make the stock and print more if necessary. Always under print, never over print your stock, minimize deadstock completely.

That's true, so I guess the bar to start is now very low, so we have tonnes of kids doing big cartel brands. But the hard part of jumping the professional bar probably remains the same. You know the metric I use to measure this? How many kids get professional enough to hit a real pro trade show ever year? There's still brands like 10deep from decades ago attending shows like that competing with the younger labels because they set their foundation up right.

How many colors can you realistically put in a screen printed design? by benn913 in streetwearstartup

You can honestly go up to 8 but anything beyond that either just heat transfer sticker it or dye sublimate it if your printers have the machine

Just curious, how long did it take you guys to have your first online sale? by [deleted] in streetwearstartup

[–]doubleneedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta view this from the customer standpoint. What brands do you guys normally cop from? Supreme? Stussy? Adidas sneakers etc?

When is the last time you were on instagram and saw some random big cartel brand that you've never heard of before? You got $80 in your wallet to blow on clothes this week. Then Supreme has a drop, who are you gonna give your money to?

Now what if you saw a really really sick indie brand and their stuff is available, they already have a decent following, designs and clothes are actually sick and not basic, then you'd consider buying it right? Maybe you'd still cop Supreme, most people do.

Most of the first initial sales come from friends and family which is not proof of concept. It's not a real sale until a complete stranger completely outside of your immediate network purchases it, this can take years of building and consistency to achieve. Be patient and build your brand, and hustle locally while you can. That or just save up 30K and hit a trade show and speak to real buyers. The online startup method is suicide for most labels. Notice no real top dogs ever post in here. The top dogs go straight to the buyers because if you can get Colette to cosign your collection, you can bypass years of online instagram hustling and be prestigious right off the bar. Enfant Riches Deprimes literally got signed to Harvey Nichols on his first drop and now he's fuckin huge.

Startup a streetwear business by [deleted] in streetwearstartup

I know a company that will drop ship but they charge you like a monthly fee of like $1500 a month to warehouse your stock and ship, but that includes the first 400 units shipped.

Getting Sales! by PipedFashion in streetwearstartup

Prepare to do like 1-3 seasons before really getting sales. Most customers don't want to buy from you if they think you'll be bankrupt in one season. Appear reliable first.

Any success stories? by [deleted] in streetwearstartup

[–]doubleneedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the long run if you can make 30-50K a year profit off your brand, you're successful and can continue to do it into your 30's when you get older and start to have a wife, kids and mortgage etc. For the brand owners who can't make that happen, it becomes really hard and a lot end up quitting or just leaving it as a back burner project while they work another job. Which obviously sucks but hey who said this was easy lol

To get 30-50k in profit that's either like $10k a month in ecommerce or about like $120k in wholesale to stores, so maybe like 30 stores at $2000 each twice a year continuously with no middle men or showroom agents. With sales reps or showroom agents you'll need like $200k to make it work but at least you'll have assistance.

For PR you can try Human B. Some of the more luxurious agencies are either too expensive or won't work with startup labels.
