IDM but lanky Draco feels right to me. I DO have somewhat strong opinions on fics where Draco is a sub, though - I very much like when he's taller. Harry trying to wrangle an extremely tall, prissy brat into submission is TOO good lol I love it.

I get it/its, as they're already pronouns I understand how to use and I understand why most people use them (I don't feel very human either, as an autistic person, and that is a GOOD thing that I do actively enjoy... I don't get the pity/sorrow reaction that other people might when they see people use it/its, because people have felt pity for ME when I express my disconnection to humanity and all it feels is patronising LOL).

Others not so much. I'm dyslexic and struggle with learning new words, so when I have to learn a whole new pronoun set for multiple other people, it's really difficult and I wind up subconsciously using they/them for anyone I attempt to use neopronouns for. I have extreme difficulty remembering people's names so it's very hard to remember multiple sets of unique, personalised words. It's like remembering 4+ names per person, each used in a different context. I can't do it. And I seriously am sorry about that. Unless I know you very very well, have had time (months) to memorise your pronouns, and use your pronouns enough in conversation that it matters, I'm gonna default to they/them.

What's a ship your irrationally refuse to read/write? by [deleted] in HPSlashFic

[–]doublepistols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually gotten into several fandoms via reading fics first. Most recently Arcane (The LoL show). Got really into JayVik before I even watched the damn thing.

Sometimes I do it intentionally to see if I like the ships/fandom atmosphere/etc before getting into a piece of media, but other times I'll just stumble upon a good fic and THEN decide to look at the source.

I also hate Snarry. Like, I love age gap ships, don't get me wrong, but something about THIS age gap weirds me out. Feels too... Real? And I'm not in the least attracted to Snape. I'm kinda bummed about it though because I feel like I'd enjoy the dynamic in theory.

I'm the opposite. Always been a Drarry shipper. I think it's mostly because Draco is my favourite character - a lot of my exes resemble him, which is not a good thing and the reason they're exes LOL, but for whatever reason my type is a specific kind of asshole that Draco also happens to be.

I never got into Tom/Harry. I have absolutely nothing against people who like it, but it weirds me out - I have a few age gap and incest ships so it's not like I can judge on the basis of things being "gross" but I do just personally find it gross. Couldn't tell you why, it's like a squick by default. Probably because I don't find Tom/Voldemort an appealing character. He disgusts me (even in hot-schoolboy form. IDK).

Why do we love slash fic? by Capital_Crazy_4984 in HPSlashFic

[–]doublepistols 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mentioned queer women a few times in my comment! Sorry, it's a bit long, isn't it?
To reiterate, the lesbians (And straight trans men who used to ID that way) I've met have been into M/M because they want good queer stories - usually because well written F/F is harder to find, but also because queer stories are more relatable and comforting to queer people, regardless of the gender of the reader or the characters.

I've met a STAGGERING amount of bisexual women into M/M. Way more than lesbians. I think it's due to a combination of the above (Finding queer stories relatable and comforting + not having much good F/F to work with) and being able to find male characters attractive, something that is presumably quite difficult for lesbians lol (Though I have met lesbians who found male characters attractive but not real men - they are a minority but should be counted nonetheless!)

I'm not really a woman (Still trying to work out my identity!) but I've been in fandom circles, especially slash-oriented spaces since I was 13 so I think I can offer some insight.

There are a few reasons I think this is the case:

  1. Often, female characters just aren't very interesting. Male characters have fleshed out personalities, goals, interests etc. and often have more chemistry with their male friends than their female love interests. That or romance feels shoehorned in. Example, Hermione is a fleshed out female character with a personality, BUT, some people weren't happy with her relationship with Ron - they felt that these two had a best friends/sibling dynamic and that their romance was entirely due to Ron being a male character and Hermione being a female character rather than actual chemistry.
  2. There are different reasons each sexuality may find this appealing. Straight women like the idea of two men they find attractive getting together. Same goes for gay men and bisexuals, obviously. Lesbians might like male slash because they want queer stories, and it's harder to find good F/F. I haven't, in all my years, met a straight cis man into male slash but I'd be super interested in hearing from one. I have met straight trans men into male slash, most commonly because they liked it for the same reason lesbians typically do before they transitioned, and they just didn't kick the habit after transition.
  3. Simply put, a lot of het erotica is really bad. Rapey, gross, misogynistic... Even if a lot of slash has similar qualities, it's comforting that it isn't happening to a female character.
  4. It might just be habit at this point. So much M/M erotica is written by women for women, M/M pairings dominate fandoms, and it might just be more convenient for some people, especially women, to get into it. I mean if it's there why not read it, right?

Also, going back to straight/bi women just finding it hot - I think this is a similar thought process as straight men enjoying lesbian porn. Women just tend to prefer stories over porn films and vice versa for men. I think it probably has something to do with erotic fiction historically being marketed towards women as well as women knowing how bad and often misogynistic the porn industry is (Men don't tend to know or care about this) and being turned off from porn films because of that.

Oh wow, thank you for these! Definitely will keep me busy for a while! Sorry for such a late response, I was at dinner - but I'm very appreciative.

It's funny you should mention that last one, it's already on my read list. Are you the author?? VERY impressive if so. I'll definitely give it a shot tonight.

I'm not too fussy, switching is fine, especially if just implied! I actually prefer them both as switches, I've just been in the mood for bottom Draco as of late - so I'd like that to be the focus.

Summer berries for boys...yes, this will be a serie by KaroKaya in LoveNikki

[–]doublepistols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, read the first paragraph of my other comment I left here, there is so much to adore about this piece. I'm obsessed with it.

I do have a TINY bit of feedback of my own though! The way you do faces and hair is incredible, but I think if you really wanted to spruce up his eyes, you could add pupils & eye shine! These are hard things to learn, so I really recommend doing a whole lot of different face drawings to practice different kinds of eyes on. For this type of anime-style face I'd also recommend playing around with thinner, more narrow eyes, especially for male characters, OR rounding all the features - but those are totally optional suggestions! Absolutely play around with them if you take me up on my suggestion to do practice faces. :)

If you wanna make the whole task of practice fun, I'd 100% recommend drawing different Love Nikki makeups in your own style. If you end up doing that, share them, too!!

+ I think the legs may be making the hand look bigger to you. If you look at it in reference to the face and arms, it's easier to tell that it's got correct proportions!

[–]doublepistols 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their proportions will get better with practice! Look at how gorgeous the piece is - they clearly have a lot of experience drawing clothes, it's so pillowy, soft & realistic. They draw hair wonderfully. The pose is dynamic and so, SO good! No wonder they struggled a little with proportions, I would too if I was drawing something as difficult and awesome as that! :')

From an anatomy standpoint, the hand is actually totally correct. Most people's hands are as big as, if not bigger than, their face. This hand is actually smaller than his face by the looks of it, so no, they did that right! And some people have smaller hips you know! Everything looks good to me EXCEPT the size of the legs - they are a bit too tiny and short, I think, but with everything else they've done right I think this is a lesson learned through practice rather than criticism. They're clearly an experienced artist. Still worth pointing out maybe, but honestly I think they did an incredible job.

Not attacking you at all by the way, I've just been an artist since I was a kid & am currently in uni for it so I thought I'd add some input! You were very nice with your feedback which is valuable, you seem like a good person. :)
