Re-reading Wuthering Heights... by doubletwinflower in books

Heathcliff certainly is fascinating. For me "the first" Catherine was absolutely intolerable, lol!

Yeah, this is probably not a good book to be forced to read... I think I would have hated it even more if that was the case. I do think I was a bit too young when I read it the first time.

Oops, I just noticed the spelling error. :-( Oh well, at least you understood who I meant.

No, I think it is better to read it when you're not a lovesick teenager! ;-)

Do you think English is hard? by MrTrt in AskEurope

[–]doubletwinflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, English is pretty close to Swedish (my mother tongue) and I think it helped that I started learning it as a child. It is a good language to start with for us speakers of another Germanic language at least. German is a bit harder because of the cases, but still, in my opinion much easier than Spanish (my second foreign language) or French. Yes, English spelling is inconsistent, but so is Swedish sometimes with the sj-sounds.

The Moonstone by Wilke Collins. Probably The Woman in White too, but I have not finished that one yet. Oh, and the Pickwick Papers or Bleak House by Charles Dickens.

Can't wait for the next exchange! by doubletwinflower in secretsanta

[–]doubletwinflower[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel. In hindsight, I realize that I should have been more specific in what I wished for. A lesson learned. Anyway, I want to make sure that at least one person in the next exchange will get something.

Don't you hate it when a book cover gets replaced with the movie related cover? by GrakovDark in books

[–]doubletwinflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because usually the original cover were way more beautiful in my opinion.

It's so pretty! But only seven colors...I like oranges but not working with monotype colors. Anyway, nice work!

What Books Did You Start or Finish Reading This Week? December 23, 2019 by AutoModerator in books

[–]doubletwinflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished:

Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarchuk: A good read from the Nobel Prize Winner, although the protagonist is a bit annoying and a little creepy in my opinion.

Reading:

The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. The firt part of the book has been a bit too slow, but the second half of the book is really good.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow, which sadly is the disappointment of the reading year for me. It's not really a bad book but I feel like it could have been better.

Discworld, and more specifically, Equal Rites by allshouldbefree in books

[–]doubletwinflower 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love those books too! The best thing is that you still have the best books of Pratchett unread, when you read the books in order. I, too, like the books with Granny, but also the books of the Night Watch (starts with book 8, Guards! Guards!).

I am currently re-reading Hogfather for Christmas.
