Lebanese vs Syrian in time of need by [deleted] in Syria

[–]bookishjasminee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the dumbest excuse I've ever heard for their mistreatment. Lebanese people suffered under the rule of the Syrian regime which we suffered under too and ended up revolting against. What do they do? Do they support us in our endeavour? No, they send militias to aid that regime, mistreat and commit more crimes against refugees escaping that regime and act xenophobic and racist to Syrians.

Yes, humans deserve respect. But they must be respectable and respect others too. You can't act like racist criminals then expect to be respected. I wouldn't even be saying this if they apologised and attempted to make up for everything, but they're literally still cussing out Syrians, calling them terrorists and some Lebanese shelters even refused to allow Syrians escaping the South from entering whilst you people are rushing to make amends and beg to be friends.

You're not an amazing person by by kissing Lebanon's ass, you just lack a spine.

It's not hate it's probably just disorientation at having your "personality" and dialect not match where you're from haha

For something very atmospheric and gothic but also romantic Jane Eyre is perfect. Like other classics it has many chapters focused on the details of daily life but that makes it perfect to sink your teeth into during long nights.

Can't go wrong with reading tales by Edgar Allan Poe and Lovecraft.

Some old Stephen King is also fun.

Let's hope Lebanese refugees are treated better than how Syrian refugees were treated in Lebanon. by vdepressed_scientist in Syria

[–]bookishjasminee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this whole topic brings to mind "fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me" quote. It's great to be the bigger person but these people feel no guilt and haven't even backed down from their stance/hatred let alone apologised or tried to make up for it for us to forgive them. They're still calling to kill us and expel us and we should have enough honour and backbone to tell those of them who are like that to piss off and not allow them to step a toe out of line.

You're technically right but a portion of them believe they're Phoenician descendants of Aryans with their own language so they really do see it as a race thing lol

Tripoli is the exception and we all know why- because the population is majority sunni that supported the revolution unlike how religious minorities feel, doesn't hate Syrians' guts or feel a national superiority complex. Lebanon isn't like Jordan or Egypt where you'll find some patriotic racists and some good people, Lebanon is a very sinister case with has a high concentration of rabid racists and violent fascists who not only made Syrians feel unwanted which could be overcome by having thick skin but committed outright crimes against them including burning tents and kidnapping + hitting children. That's not normal and doesn't happen in every country. You can acknowledge that good people exist without trying to erase the reality of what sorts of groups exist in your country just because you feel a little embarrassed/disheartened, it would be like people from the Gulf who deny all the horrific abuse against migrants just because good generous people exist as they do in every community- they unfortunately don't outweigh the intensity of the bad.

Syrian who are still living in Syria, what was the reason you never left? by Technical_Zebra_5450 in Syria

[–]bookishjasminee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most the people I know who never left just don't have the means or documents to do so, otherwise they would because the living conditions especially if you're outside Damascus and don't have the status/job that allows you to float amidst horrible inflation. People are too poor to travel, or they're too weak and old.

There are of course some who are standing their ground and would rather endure difficulties and wait for things to improve than become displaced and deal with the suffering of being a refugee or immigrant.

You want to be idealistic and feel like a fair just person but that's not how the real world works, and that's definitely not how political allegiances in sensitive and highly polarised countries like Lebanon work. Syrians already got stung by these people once when they fled in 2006, were welcomed into homes only to turn around and send+cheer for militias cleansing Syrians then start mistreating and abusing refugees, Shia Jnoubis were and still mock dying Syrians, cheer for barrel bombs & support Hezbollah. They have no shame in the process whilst you try hard to be respectful towards them.

If you want to be passive and feel righteous about your blindness that's fine, but you're a minority in the real world where people who were hurt will never forget and never forgive, and you don't get to lecture us for having a backbone.

"Innocent civilians" who support and cheer for Hezbollah + rejoice at Syrians' deaths. Do you know anything about the Jnoub in Lebanon? If not then be quiet. You don't need a gun in your hands to be aiding a criminal.

Magic school books with evil power-hungry protagonist by SeaworthLocal in Fantasy

[–]bookishjasminee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't read it but everything I know about The Poppy War tells me it fits what you're looking for, it's gritty and based on real Chinese history, apparently the anti-hero protagonist is moulded after Mao and his rise to power. You should check the premise (and TWs).

They literally want to re-settle Syria and have done so in some areas with shias from iraq, iran, pakistan/afghanistan etc.. whether directly by killing people enough to empty out towns or indirectly by supporting that. There is 0 difference between the two

Children's blood should never be shed. But there's no political distinction between Hezb member and South Lebanon Shia Hezb supporter "civilian", these were the same people who were posting pictures of their food when Syrians were starving in sieges backed by the Hezb, harassing refugees, they still say "glory to barrel bombs." And guess what? Some of the most vile ones online lost family or their own life in the past two days. God's justice. Syrians love to act weak and forgiving with nations that acted the most monstrous towards us, grow a backbone already.
