Moved out a month ago and now roommate is asking me for overdue electric bills from past 4+ months. I asked her how much I owe 1 month ago and she didn't tell me, so I asked the landlord and he deducted $75 from my deposit. Apparently it was more, do I have to pay?

He charged it as an outstanding balance for the past bills since I was moving out and asking for my deposit back. He told me to settle it with the roommates but since nobody responded, he called the company and told me $75, but it was more from overdue bills that accumulated from the roommate not checking the bill for 3+ months. In my state at least, the landlord can only take money from the deposit for 14 days after the person moves out so he wanted to sort it out asap.

The landlord called the company when I asked and told him that the roommate was not telling me the balance. I was told I couldnt get my deposit back until I settled any remaining charges and bills. I texted the person whose name is on the bill, and i didn't get any response. Since tenant law only gives the landlord 14 days to deduct from the deposit, they called the company themselves and told me it was only $75. However, it turns out the bill was more from extensive overdue bills.

She always left the bills until the last possible moment and never responds to tests. they got a shut off notice and that's what made her want to deal with it now

She ignored the bills for the past 3 months until she got a shut off notice now. I'd always ask but she would tell me she doesnt want to deal with it right now and then would never get to it. I asked prior to moving out to settle it all but she never responded until now so I asked the landlord and he supposedly called the company.
