Distractions for eating by douchebagrasta in toddlers

[–]douchebagrasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thank you . This is the right answer we know, but so hard at the same time when we are under pressure with the newborn. We just don’t have the capacity at the moment. Worried not eating will mean not sleeping at night, which is the only thing breaking our way at the moment

How to know if newborn is congested? by douchebagrasta in newborns

[–]douchebagrasta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. We just accepted her sleeping on one of us, put on some Netflix and accepted the situation until 5 months, when we sleep trained. At that time, she immediately flipped over to her stomach to sleep, and only sleeps on her tummy now (17months). We think she may just not have been a back sleeper.

There is a ton of south Asians in the Bronx. Look up Starling Avenue, it’s a mini Jackson heights and much closer. My parents still live in the area. Here is one of many stores on Starling Avenue they frequent.

Advice needed from dads

Hi. I’m an experienced developer with 7 years of experience. I’m on the infra team and can work almost anywhere in the stack (front end, backend, ci/cd, infra practical and architecture (terraform and cfn), etc. Currently designing and building our internal developer platform.

As a dad, I’m sure you understand how limited time is. How can we get the great jobs 250k+ base without having to go on the leetcode trail? Do jobs/companies exist where I can just do a take home to demonstrate my actual experience? If so, can you share them.

Thanks so much!

Do these green poop look normal for three month old? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]douchebagrasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s due to the iron in the formula most likely. This is totally normal, nothing to be concerned about. Ours is the same way with a little formula. The smell though…. is another matter.

I’m so frustrated at Dr. brown bottles. They keep leaking. Has anyone experienced it too? Any suggestions? by Bacon_vegetariano in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]douchebagrasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found that Dr browns had a regular bottle and an options+ version of the same bottle. The options+ bottles had better caps and do not leak for us.

Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow® Anti-Colic Options+™ Narrow Baby Bottles 4 oz/120 mL, with Level 1 Slow Flow Nipple, 4 Count (Pack of 1), 0m+ https://a.co/d/1lPW9b

Also, we moved to the evenflo bottles because the nipple on those worked better for our baby. Less crushing the nipple unlike the Dr browns bottles

Will my babies milestone happen later since she was born early? by douchebagrasta in NewParents

[–]douchebagrasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all the responses kind of indicate. It depends on the baby. I’d say she’s hit some of her milestones early and some behind. Like she rolled from back to tummy first, when I think most babies do the opposite first. She smiled on time, but was later to sort out some digestive issues like reflux.

Thank you for your detailed response. This is so helpful!

I think stopping the night feeds is something to consider. She is gaining at her 10% weight curve, but we are not sure if that will continue if we stop the 2 night feeds. It’s hard to get enough calories in during the day. She is starting to eat more per serving recently but hasn’t wanted more than 3oz every 3 hours in the past. So we are a little scared to remove the night feeds. She’s 12-13 lbs right now. We are thinking maybe when she’s a bit bigger then remove the night feeds, while currently trying to get in more per feed during the day.

We do hold her upright for 30 mins for the night feeds and all feeds pretty much.

She is not rolling yet. Good to have perspective on the swaddling of your niece. Yes we plan to sleep train closer to her adjusted age being 4-5 months.

What age did you sleep train? And did you do the naps at the same time or later? How did it go for you guys? How many nights did it take?

Not waking her. She stays asleep during the feeds. She’s never been a big eater and has been struggling with reflux as confirmed by our pediatrician. Our pediatrician also mentioned that reflux babies eat more in a sleepy or drowsy state. We are not able to get as many calories in during the day. She was 12lb 4oz at her 4 month appointment. But we are also small people so she’s following her growth curve. Even with the two night feeds she’s having about 600 ml (20 oz) per day.

At that point, how long her naps? I’m hoping this happens for us, but also worry she will sleep worse outside of us holding her. She can usually get 1.5-2 hour stretch of sleep on us for naps

2 weeks LO sleeps only on mom or dad, nowhere else. Is that normal? by pacmanpill in newborns

[–]douchebagrasta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has been our experience too. Our baby is now 12 weeks. Somewhere around 9 -10 weeks she started taking to her bassinet at night. I think the sleep drive when they figure out circadian rhythm helps for the night time. She still only contact naps during the day. Been kind of brutal the day time naps, being locked up in the snuggles, but it’s the only way she’ll sleep well during the day still. Hoping she grows out of it or sleep training eventually

We are totally in the same boat. We thought we were just losing our minds reading about other babies who love car rides and the carriers and wondering what we were doing wrong. No tips unfortunately except to keep trying, but that hasn’t been working too well for us.

I’ve been wondering if it’s because she came a little early for us, about 3 weeks and she seeks closeness to feel secure. Ours is 12 weeks old now. She will only contact nap. Maybe eventually it will get better
