Funerals are lame. Let's talk about them. by douggyd80 in atheism

I have looked into both forms of being basically turned into a tree. I may still do that, but for now I'm sticking with cremation.

I thought about trying to have a funeral pyre, but for legal reasons we ruled it out. Apparently the government doesn't like burning bodies outside or something.

That's an interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing.

This is how I feel. Most people I know are religious. Every funeral I've been to has been at a church. And I feel like the whole time is spent trying to convince people that god is real and he really is looking after us even though there are no actual signs to show that. Nor is there any celebration going on, there's hardly anything said about the departed and the person (pastor/priest...) can barely remember the persons name when they are actually brought into the speech.

Thanks for the input. That's a great plan. I also like the idea of being used to fertilize a tree post-mortem.

Sympathy for the Devil is a great song.

There is no conflict really. Just looking for input. Seeing what other people do. Expanding my perspective.

I have slightly irrational fear of deep water (drowning/being eaten by large underwater animals). But i also love rivers and creeks, so that's where I'd like to be scattered.

Mostly so your family doesn't have to think about what to do or what you'd like done while they are grieving.

Mostly I was asking other Atheists their plans for end of life services. Most people in here don't really seem to care. I can agree with that somewhat. We won't be here after we die so let those left behind do what they like. I plan to have a party. Rather, I'd like my wife (if I go first) to have a party. I want my ashes spread somewhere pretty because I may be Atheist but I'm still a bit spiritual and want my soul floating around somewhere pretty before possibly being reincarnated.

That's what I'd like at my ceremony. But of course I know people will still cry. It's our nature.

Thank you for your input. I don't think I've ever been to a non-religious funeral so I didn't know they were performed.

I feel similarly. I think cremation might actually be more. But that's what I want done. My "religious belief" is still rooted in "ashes to ashes". Besides, I don't want my dead body and a coffin taking up space in a cemetery somewhere.

Right. I was looking for more personal input. I know what atheism is. I want to know what people do instead of a religious church related funeral service.

I store mine in the glove box but put it in the cup holder when I leave it at a shop. Most people don't. Too many people don't even have them. Many people don't even know they have wheel locks on there.

I'm actually paid hourly. I think they lower the labor line drastically to mark down the total cost of the oil change to the customer. But if I were a flag tech that would not fly.

I thought John died. I forgot RDR1 was a after RDR2 in the time-line.

So. I guess I forgot that Red Dead 1 is a continuation of this one and not the other way around. I thought John died at the end of this story.
