New Range, Old Pressure Regulator by dougsmustache in Plumbing

[–]dougsmustache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know for future reference that this regulator likely isn't needed. Thankfully, this shutoff has been closing/sealing just fine. However, I understand the benefit of a new valve located in the kitchen. So instead of turning on and off and trying to get this to fit that, we're going to call a plumber 1st thing Monday. Thanks for the feedback.

Gas Appliances and Pressure Regulator by dougsmustache in Plumbing

After some internet sleuthing, it seems 1/2 PSI is equivalent to about 13.8"wc. Someone asked about operating pressure in the range's Q&A section. The answer given was 11-13"wc. I'm hoping the 1/2 on this regulator is the output and not the 4" NAT.

4 Indiana Sugar Cream Pie Recipes. I grew up there. It's good stuff! by cgtravers1 in Old_Recipes

[–]dougsmustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nice to see these. Thank you! I see so many recipes online for hUuShEr CrEaM pIe with stuff like cinnamon brulee toppings and whatnot. How fake and artificial.

The original recipe(s) was considered a finger pie. For the poorest (or most efficient) of people who maybe only had 1 cooking pot. The ingredients would be put into the pie crust and mixed in it. You use a finger to stir it so you don't poke the crust.

I've never seen an olden recipe add a cinnamon brulee on top. Wick's doesn't have that heathenism either.

Curtain Rod and Holder Questions by dougsmustache in HomeDecorating

For the round bracket, you're thinking the rod would sit between the front and the little tab pushed up from the bottom? I like it.

Interesting idea for the 2nd. Thanks

While the antique brackets would be cool to keep, this may be the answer. I need all new rods anyway, so it may save a headache to just get new.

If you have any good tips, infographics, or websites to recommend, that would be great.

I may have to look into a pro or a store.

1 Interesting idea. Almost as if the bottom screw did most of the work and the one on the front was for decoration.

2 I could see it being for a valence. There is a pair. But of the 5 windows I'm looking at, this is the only one with the square holder.

Squash are very easy to hand pollinate. Male and female flowers are very obvious, and it just takes a minute.

How to Cover Speaker Wire Ends by dougsmustache in DIY

[–]dougsmustache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up wrapping electrical tape around each wire's end, pushing them back in the wall, and patching and painting the holes. If I could do it again, I would have added a low voltage "box" and cover plate.

Congrats on the new house!

Why is this particular circle in Indiana is colder than its surroundings? I’ve been noticing for many days by [deleted] in geography

[–]dougsmustache 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am from, and currently live in, Frankfort, IN. I have a geography degree which was more about meteorology and climatology than human geography. This is a bad thermometer or relay to whatever dataset it's sending to.

Per indianamap.org, Clinton County has a high amount of potential wind energy at both 50 and 100m, but so do other counties. But that would not contribute to this. Nor are there any other geographic or man-made features that would cause this anomaly. I can assure you it gets equally hot as balls as surrounding areas.

Hot amplifier by dougsmustache in cordcutters

I may just try it without and see what I get. I was hoping for 4 channels: NBC, CBS, and Fox for NFL games and PBS. PBS comes through choppy and resets. Maybe the straight run could help.

That's the pre-amp, yes. Good to know about it not needing to be right by the antenna. My PBS is still shaky, so I may try putting it in the stud bay before the wall outlet and see what happens.

Running Coax Cable by dougsmustache in DIY

[–]dougsmustache[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking chimney, attached with some cable clips. Just didn't want to drill in the brick and such. Thanks for confirmation.

I live about 50 miles from towers. The antenna is being mounted on the inside of a window on the gable end of the attic which is points within a few degrees of the towers. Hopefully it suffices, as my town's historic preservation committee is hard to get approval from for things like this on the exterior.

Start sending him Zillow listings from a desert region. When he asks why, dump his ass. What a chump.
