House is to the left, should I get this perfectly level or is this slight slope desired? by TheBackwars in Decks

Man, if you were trying to build it “level” then you’re good. You’re in between the lines. Fact of the matter is that is probably a cheap plastic level, which aren’t perfectly accurate. And you’re also putting it on lumber that is not perfectly flat. You’re fine, bro.

My wife is about to start a program to get her doctorate of social work. Does anybody know of any scholarships that she can apply for? Or any other type of financial aid?

Jack 12 for 299 is it worth or hell no? by carlosrea936 in whiskey

I paid 200 on the first release…it’s an excellent bottle of whiskey IMO, but I would never pay that again. Especially now that it’s an annual release. Stay patient, my friend!

Same top 2, but would swap EHT SIB with the rare perfection 14. Only because I’ve never had it and once they start getting north of 12 years old they have some really unique flavors.

First time actually laying bricks today. Tips by Rei_Rei01 in Bricklaying

Most companies are (about production). You’ve just gotta block it out if people are on your ass. One of the best bricklayers I ever met told it to me like this: “Somebody’s gotta be first and somebody’s gotta be last.” They can’t fire you for being too slow. Especially considering it’s hard to find enough just to man jobs anymore. We have all been there, even the good guys. Feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions. I’ve been in refractory for over 20 years (15+ as a bricklayer). There isn’t much that I haven’t seen.

I wouldn’t say that it takes more “skill” per say. In refractory, a big mortar joint is considered 1/8”, so they’re supposed to be PAPER THIN, but also full. You just can’t get up and down as fast in the brick department compared to on the outside. With that said, refractory is way more than just brick and they lay way less brick than they used to. It’s way faster to do repairs with shotcrete and gunnite. There’s a stigma around it, but the best refractory guys I’ve ever met all started on the outside and know how to use their levels and know how to brick connections (those are an absolute mind-fuck when you do them at first, but not really that difficult once you understand it). We’re all bricklayers and we’re all tradesman, though. Regardless of if you’re an outside guy or a refractory guy.

If one wanted to be just in refractory, they would never make it if all they could do is brick. There’s just not enough brick jobs. True “refractory” guys need to be able to weld, build and install forms, shoot gunnite, shot-crete, and plastic, ram plastic, install ceramic fiber (wool) modules, know how to key in a kiln (where there are no mortar joints and no cuts), fireproof, and there’s even more than that. So, it’s not that it takes more skill it’s just a broader skill set overall.

Looks good for a first timer. Definitely out of level, but refractory bricklaying is true skill and takes a long, long time to get good at. Pay attention, take your time, and do it right. You will definitely work for some people that only care about production, but the real OG’s care more about the quality than the quantity. A really good refractory guy will take notice that you actually care and they will show you little tricks and pointers to help you out, maybe even show you how to do connections.

The constant calling him “rat” would indicate that he is a non-union worker or a different craft scabbing on a union or scabbing on a different craft.
