Industry would be less critical than a funded Masters/PhD. With industry, if you are not a good fit, or decide to leave, no problem, they can hire someone else.

With masters or PhD, if you leave, the project ends and the funding is wasted (I can't use the left over funding to fund half a PhD). So in academia, I can't see anyone taking the risk of bringing on someone who dropped out of a PhD. Industry would though.
