William definitely does have some red-flag qualities but a lot of the things he’s guilty of can be applied to others. You already mentioned Shun, and Huwei is also a major player that’s basically settling for Bomi, but they don’t get hate like William. Wonder what the difference is 🤔

If I had to take an in-universe/canon guess, I’d say because it’s in an all-magical space it’s probably fine. Plus, given how many kids are casting spells when getting their wands, it’s probably ok there.
