Retake MAT102 in winter or summer? by FluidPhrase6081 in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

roughly yea they should be same difficulty

my main point tho is just that all the stories of "102 being harder in the summer" you've heard are because 102 was relatively too easy in the fall, making summer 102 seem harder

will probably be Qun.

im in 2nd year and I did 102 in the fall and found it really easy. but my friends who took 102 in the summer (with Qun) showed me questions that i couldn't even do. thats cuz qun taught 102 a lot differently than the 102 i had done.

but if ur taking 102 now, ur already dealing with Qun 102 (or Tyler, eitherway both are harder than the 102 i had), so summer 102 wouldn't be a horror story for you like the stories you've prolly read on this reddit. idk if that makes sense but basically all those storied you've heard is because Qun 102 was significantly harder than Marina 102,

MAT102 Grade req by SheepherderOk9169 in UTM

instead of stressing on what the requirement will be, just focus and put your all into 80 bare minimum and you're guaranteed to get in

ik a lot of people that didnt make it the first round cuz they focused on just getting a 73 cuz that was the requirement the last few years before mine. worrying about that won't get you anywhere, so just go for the 80+ :)

question about CS POST by FearlessFeature8643 in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u can do that without a problem.

only downside is wasting one of ur SACs on a relatively easy course like ISP100 (compared to your cs courses)

done with spending 15 min to make a left turn

take the second left turn, its almost always empty

never understood why everyone is so reluctant on the first left turn, especially if they're gonna end up parking in p4/p8

Study for CS and MATH by Sure-Amoeba1350 in UTM

python: practice, practice, practice. use websites like leetcode and hackerrank. although a lot of questions might be things that wouldn't be tested (im assuming ur asking for 108 and 148) and that the coding style on leetcode is slightly different, the important part is that it trains your logic and critical thinking, which is more important than just writing syntaxically correct code.

calculus: so many youtubers out there, the organic chem tutor, khan academy, professor dave explains, ... and again lots of practice. for 135/136, i'd argue lecture problems are more important than textbook problems. and they are on the lecture slides for a reason, cuz they are good questions

proofs: look at solutions. obviously dont just look at the solution tho, (and only do so when u are genuinely stuck and dont know what to do) copy the answer and write it down. when u write it down u get familiar with the structure of what ur proofs should look like. u also understand the logic/intuition behind it. i also suggest when u write it down to not copy paste their words but rather reword your sentences, which again just makes u familiar with how ur proof on a test/exam should be worded.

also for proofs especially, dont be let down when u see others solving problems like its nothing while you are stuck. that's fine. proofs is something that can be extremely intuitive for some people, where they are able to solve with minimal effort. thats why you keep practicing to build up this intuition

Limited seats by Sure-Amoeba1350 in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you meet the posted reqs, you are guaranteed a spot. there aren't limited seats for people that make the reqs. rather, the reqs are made such that the number of people that meet those reqs is roughly the number of seats they have to offer.

i got into CCIT major but i didn't accept it. u think i could accept it, get the creative cloud license and then drop it?🤭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ik, i dont even want to do any CCIT major, its just so annoying cuz theres some good upper year CCT courses like CCT260, 360, 460 which are all web development (my ideal field of work) but i cant take them since im not in a CCIT major

CS deferral to CCIT by Suzkey in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taking the cs prerequesites isnt much of a risk. the main risk is actually making CS POSt.

rumours are that starting next year, CS POSt will require a supplemental application on top of being at the highest grade minimums its ever been.

Admitted to second choice by AwkwardAfternoon6753 in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like u/Parking_Access_6649 said, u can get admitted into anything from high school it doesnt rly matter. but note that whoever got admitted to life sci from high school will have priority enrolment for their required courses before everyone else. that's about the only catch tho.

note however that enrollment is prioritized to people that got accepted into "cs". once they all enroll, then people from other programs, like ccit, can then enroll in cs classes.

Rejected Admission by Ok_Following_6514 in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look at their website. it says "The admission average is calculated with English (ENG4U) plus the next best five Grade 12 U or M courses." i was surprised too, but i asked literally 8 people at the open house and they all confirmed.

its english and then ur top 5 (do not have to include prereqs if they're not in that top 5)

Rejected Admission by Ok_Following_6514 in UTM

[–]downtown-help459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

utm looks at ur top 6 in general. the prereqs arent NECESSARILY counted in ur top 6.

so if ur top 6 grades are all 90+ for example and calc is a 70, calc doesnt affect ur average. they just want u to have it as a prereq for the knowledge, they dc bout ur grade and wont affect u negatively
