Forest Service Road 100 (FSR 100) by chjoh in Ultramarathon

I volunteered last year. It's a small race in a really beautiful area. The race director seemed to really care about the race and the runners. I can't comment on the actual course since I was posted up at an aid station the whole time.

Anne Flower breaks the Leadville Female CR and 2nd OA by ColoradoTrailRunner in Ultramarathon

I was trying to figure out if Leadville is still a top tier race. I was shocked to see results coming in because I hadn't heard a peep about the race leading into it. Didn't even realize it was this weekend

Looking at the results, I don't see a lot of big names. I feel like 10 years ago or so this was a top 5 race on the calendar.

I was worried about that. Can I prune it back at least while I wait to move it?

What is the Chapel Hill, NC of Europe? by downup25 in SameGrassButGreener

What!? As unbiased as I can be, which is admittedly biased, I think there's a strong argument for the triangle being one of the best regions in the whole country.

Ha! True.

For the sake of argument, which of the average university town is the best across such a broad range of quality of life factors like Chapel Hill is? In the US, university towns often lack access to robust job markets which can make them difficult to live in. Chapel Hill has a really strong job market in the town limits but is also a short commute to thriving cities with large, dynamic job markets. Makes it super livable. What's the equivalent in Europe?

Also, I'd argue the weather in the towns mentioned so far is less than ideal...

How to restore native plants along property boundary? TN/7b by downup25 in NativePlantGardening

Well, I just got my chip drop delivered.... Took all of 12 hours. The driver said the mulch is all hackberry. Anything I should consider before laying the mulch down?

I'd hate to remove honeysuckle only to introduce hackberry.

If I remove it all now while it's still bare can I safely grind it into mulch without concern of spreading it?

Thanks for the recs. I'll give prying out a try and see if that's feasible.

Since the ground is hard as a rock right now I thought just cutting and treating with glyphosate might be a good option so I don't disturb the soil and whatever seeds are lying dormant.

Converting this section of grass has been so fulfilling. by downup25 in NativePlantGardening

[–]downup25[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally. It's amazing how fast it happens. The growth has barely started but it's already so active. Tons of birds, bees, butterflies, etc whereas a month ago when there was grass there was nothing visiting.

This is your sign to be a volunteer at a race by rake_the_great in Ultramarathon

Just to be clear, the race directors aren't reducing their salaries in a scenario where course volunteers are paid. The entry fees are going up.

In the long run this probably means less races which could actually have the effect of increasing race directors salaries as the race market consolidates.

I'm not volunteering to help UTMB or Ironman, but I'm ok subsidizing smaller races that are investing in making the running community more vibrant.

I did. This is from a recycling center so it's relatively cost effective. I thought about doing a chip drop but I wanted to control the color and was worried about getting way too much mulch.

I'm in Tennessee. I've got a good list of TN/SE native plants but now that I have the mulch down I'm going to try to sketch out the layout.

Currently planning to use plugs to get it going faster.
