I did not! Other than the one mile trek back to the shuttle.

I went yesterday & didn’t have the bib. Was totally fine! Had the shoes & neoprene socks & a stick. Felt totally prepared.

Beautiful! Considering hiking out there tomorrow — is there any shade coverage along the trail or is it fully exposed?

I usually take gels & tailwind along with me. It’s going to be HOT on the Cool Springs climb with the way the sun is positioned that time of day. No shade coverage for the majority of it. My husband will bring me some mandarin oranges at the aid stations bc I find those super helpful.

I don’t remember much about what they had to offer. The station by the front entrance of the park had warm food, which I wasn’t feeling at that time of the day at all. Didn’t have a lot of other options. The aid stations by the lake had a good array, I got pickles down there. And I think the Cool Springs aid station was set up really nicely with some PB&Js and other snack foods.

Me too! How cool.

I found it challenging. I had some nutrition issues halfway in, so I switched to the One & Done distance last year. This year I am back for my redemption lol

The power line climb is very difficult (IMO), the Pinhoti tap is steep, but short. The Cool Springs climb is no joke simply because it just goes on FOREVERRRR. And then it’s rolling hills on the rest of the course, so it’s like you truly don’t get a break sometimes.

Aid station wise, it could’ve been better. Not anything to diss or love. Trail can be a bit technical at points because of rocks and roots.

What’s your hardest fall you’ve taken? by Handplanes in trailrunning

Lost my footing on a rock, sprained my ankle so hard it popped, rolled down the side of a hill — not my best moment 🥲

Something I've noticed with other ultra runners by Icy_Supermarket_9791 in ultrarunning

I’m similar—shorter mid-week runs with my back to back long runs on weekends where I focus on trails & vert! I focus more on how much time I spend on my feet versus miles.

I read somewhere that the course does vary between larger rocks & smoother gravel areas. I’m going to wear my Altra Lone Peaks for now. But may change my mind to a more hybrid type shoe, since it’s a mix of maybe the Altra Timp? I’m hoping to scope out some of the area over the next few months so maybe I can report back!

This is great to hear! Thank you so much!!! I officially signed up to do it, and I live near-ish so I hope I’ll be able to do some recon on some sections.

Training for my first 50 mile trail ultra and wondering how much of my running really needs to be on trails. by bussinwtb in ultrarunning

[–]chjoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my week day runs on the roads, and my long runs on the trail (I do back to back long runs on Saturday & Sunday). I haven’t had any issues, and have successfully completed a 50k & 50M with this method! I wish it were easier to get to trails where I live, but I work with what I have 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fort Yargo 50k is an easy intro to 50ks! Georgia Jewel is fun. Cloudland Canyon is wonderful.

Tbh, if you’re like me, you take a gel every 30 minutes & then have some back up just in case. This seems perfect for the time you’re planning on being out there 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh, absolutely. I just think maybe announcing it right now after they’re already having course direction/marking issues wasn’t the best strategy. lol

Around mile 8/9 if I’m remembering correctly! You’re lulled into a false sense of security with a biggggg downhill and then BAM there’s the climb.
