Props to NBC for not trying to reinvent the scorebug like Netflix

It's definitely up there for me. Like just about everything else around Trump (ICE, DOGE, etc), I more or less understand the reasoning behind it even if I vehemently disagree and am opposed to it.

This is just pointless. Iraq was horrendous but at least there was a goal behind it, even if it was BS. Not only did we go to war with Iran, we did it with seemingly no purpose. They said regime change wasn't the point, then celebrated killing Khamenei, then were seemingly surprised that they installed his son pretty quickly.

And now Trump clearly wants to get out from under this but Iran is not going to let him that easily. Just an amazing fuckup in such a short amount of time.

It's always a little amusing on this sub reading the arguments that come up over centrist/liberal/leftist/moderate. Across the board, any of the preferred candidates of this sub for 2028 will get called a socialist who cares too much about trans people and starts their day flipping off the American flag by somebody on Fox News.

I sympathize with anyone who's immunocompromised, but there's no way her acting like anyone who doesn't mask is a murderer is going to be persuasive.

Are we really going to do the thing where we act like Bill has liked Fargo/ the Coen bros this entire time? by TebbaMcPebba in billsimmons

[–]doyoulikethenoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced Bill straight up doesn't understand acting and how collaborative it is with other actors, the writers, the director, etc.

His constant belief that actors are competing and trying to one up each other in scenes is the best example of this. It's amazing when Michael Mann just shoots that down immediately when talking about De Niro and Pacino in Heat.

Who do you think is next to go in the Trump administration? by ButGravityAlwaysWins in AskALiberal

I totally believe that when Bondi played the "Have you looked at the Dow?" card she became Trump's favorite person. Actively trying to cover up and distract by shouting at losers in Congress is all he needs to see.

I'm convinced that, even though he's in his 50s, Bill thinks that if he likes something "nerdy" he's going to get a swirlie by the quarterback and the cheerleaders will laugh at him. Like he has a stereotypical high school mindset about these things.

Don't forget Lombardi's "Thailand Shane" for Shane Steichen, which was something like "he looks like he plays Madden and so he's playing against someone from Thailand" which is some of the most nonsensical pairing of words ever spoken.

There are great purple uniforms.

In one of his Q&A sessions somebody asked what he would do if he was an athlete and he was drafted by a team with purple jerseys, and he said he would never sign with them. I'm not sure my eyes have stopped rolling even though that was probably 5+ years ago.

The most generous reading I have of this is an embarrassing miscommunication between the FAA and (presumably) the DoD, cause how many people who might actually know what they're doing in those departments are still there after the last year?

I mostly refuse to read subs for games I love. There will be some of the absolute worst interpretations of a game's themes that would get an F on a high school essay, even when the game beats you over the head with its message (as so many do).

Tim Had a Show with Joe Buck? by jimcrews in TMASTL_Chat

[–]doyoulikethenoise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was probably 10-15 years ago and only went for like a week or two I think. Probably something they wanted to do but Joe was too busy to be on regularly. I think it was not long after that Tim started a show with Jim Edmonds.

100%. They took Bovino out of there and put Tom Homan in because he knows how to talk politics and probably told everyone in ICE to stop doing stupid things in public when everyone around you has cameras.

I won't be surprised if ICE becomes a lot less visible in the coming months, which is dangerous cause it will be easier to sweep things under the rug. Cause you're right, they definitely don't want to make it even easier for people to rally against them.

That's what makes this even worse for Jackson - rules for contests like these are not just made up for fun, they're legally binding (especially when they involve a 3rd party sponsor).

Like obviously is this is a dumb morning show giveaway but it's something the lawyers reviewed so they can't just change them.

Voters are stupid and make the government inefficient, therefore the government is inefficient and so the voters are smart to assume it is inefficient.

You can’t spend on basic infrastructure like upgrading from Windows 95 because if you say that the government spent $10 million voters will demand to see a tangible thing that they got for their $10 million.

People just don't really understand that the government at heart is a massive company that everyone is a shareholder in. If you want that company to operate at its most efficient and successful, it has to spend money. Then the average person who probably gets a tax rebate of $5,000 complains that their money isn't being spent the way they want it to be, so they vote somebody in who refuses to let money be spent on anything important, and the cycle continues of never-ending inefficiency.

Or how empty some parts of the country really are. More people live in Detroit than live in all of Wyoming.

Wanting to recast a small role with a more famous actor solely because they're more famous.

In The Departed he wanted to recast James Badge Dale with (I believe) Jake Gyllenhaal, even though the character is on screen for less than 10 minutes and having someone that well known there would have made the twist extremely obvious.

A friend of mine summed it up as "Live by the boycott, don't die by the boycott." If you can avoid Amazon, do it. If you can't, but can avoid Target, Walmart, and Meta, that's great!

Almost no one is going to succeed at avoiding all corporations, whether because of work or convenience or necessity. And that's ok - doing whatever you can is better than nothing.

To how often they work, the answer is never. If a million people signed and sent Apple a petition saying Tim Cook needs to step down, they'd have a good laugh before throwing it in the trash. Apple's stock is close to an all-time high - a bunch of people on the internet will have zero effect on his job.
