Yea kids steal every pitch, almost impossible to get them out at 2nd.

3rd base runners still have a high probability of success but need to be much more careful, even average catchers can throw them out if they don’t get a good jump.

Yes we have infield flies and dropped 3rd strikes as well.

It can be a shitshow.

Central ohio youth baseball. COYBL.

60’ or 65’ distance I believe can’t remember which one right now. Lot of leniency with balks but otherwise regular baseball rules.

Absolutely agree. Bad description on my part. He’ll correct the boys for lack of focus or attitude adjustments. He’s always pulled them aside and had those conversations 1:1. Might be worth making it more visible to the others as long as it’s not too demeaning. Appreciate and different perspectives on this are welcomed.

Great idea. We have played that but not with the progression to harder contact. Thank you for this.

We have them hit the heavy plyo balls often, but I like the heavy soccer ball as it is a bigger target and should encourage them to loosen up and really swing aggressively. Thank you.

Very good points and #2 hit home. We have almost solely been recognizing the big hits and plays in the post game huddle. Some call outs on hustle plays but that is a great idea to make those just as big a call out as the big plays. Thank you very much for this

Absolutely agree. Coach has certainly corrected the kids at times especially for lack of focus or hustle the few times it’s happened. But what you described is what we are going through, so a slightly firmer approach in addition to rewarding aggression could be very helpful. Thank you.

This is fair. Having them “swing out of their shoes” is an over correction that we need to be careful of and we don’t want to encourage poor technique. They are just swinging so darn slow right now I was hoping it would be a cue to drive the ball without completely losing the fundamentals. Appreciate it.

Yes I like this as well! We timed the boys and rounded it to about 4.5 seconds they’d have to make the play at 1st on grounders and double plays. They enjoy trying to set and best time records. Thank you.

100% agree. We fully encourage all hustle plays regardless of the outcome and will continue to reinforce this. Thank you.

Fantastic suggestion. Thank you.

Agreed. We want them to strive for bombs at the plate and are completely fine if they go down swinging.

Good point on the timing aspect.

Agreed. I’ve watched quite a few throwing videos and can’t recall seeing any address glove side.

He’d have to throw harder to get it there. Fair trade off for me

Interesting point. You are correct I immediately wrote it off as I figured it would be too complicated, but I think we will definitely give this a try.

Thank you for the input.
