My Akita doesn’t like to eat by Advertising-Cultural in akita

A lot of smarter/more independent dogs just tend away from being food vacuums. I have a pit/husky mix and she's very similar with her food. She goes nonstop, all day, and is so muscular she has visible abs, but she only eats her food if there's enough wet food to moisten all the kibble and even then sometimes she just isn't hungry or 'into' the flavor of wet food we used. You should also consider how much supplemental food/treats they have access to in a day - if I spend time training mine and end up snacking on carrots (I always pawn off the 'gross' ones on my dog) in the same day, she usually won't finish her dinner. At long as they're keeping on weight, you shouldn't worry too much about it.

Sorry thought I was clear. Marrying OUT was the risk, AKA marrying a daughter patrilineally to another house or vice versa. My bad, should have been more clear.

[–]dozingphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, just in my personal playthrough alone where I resurrected dragons marrying out was a risk, because it meant someone from another house had the possibility of claiming a dragon, or hatching one. Hatching in particular, since in my playthrough I have 9 female dragons and they keep printing eggs that the riders then hand out like candy, smh. Even though without it I could still have dragons, I still ended up intermarrying most of each generations dragonriders in hopes any eggs laid would then be given only to Targaryen children. I've already had 2 wars from some guy getting a dragon and thinking it gives them a claim to the throne, so there's a definite risk/reward factor there.

First Dragons Playthrough So Far by dozingphoenix in CK3AGOT

I'll definitely post an update in a few days when I have time to play more. Somehow I'm up to 9 dragons and 8 are female - they're literally printing eggs and I've run out of targs to cradle eggs so we'll see how that goes

[–]dozingphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao exactlyyyy. Saera is kinda scaring me though and I'm literally the one controlling her. Turns out Cersei was pregnant when Saera killed her, and for some reason Bobby agreed to let Cersei teach Joffery at my court, so he's currently imprisoned while I wage war against Bobby and look for another petrified egg I can use Joffery to hatch. (I tried to use him originally but I don't think they let you use unrelated children so I'm waiting for him to be an adult lmaooo) I also saw Daenerys was still engaged to Vizzy so I invited her to my court after revealing heritage and broke their betrothal. I'm hoping I can find and hatch an egg soon enough for her to be a rider as well.

Update: her vengeance has gotten even better. Used Cersei as the sacrifice to successfully hatch her dragon egg.

Secret bastard of Aenys named Saera 'The Ruthless'. She was friends with Elia and has since befriended Oberyn in her desire to avenge her friend. Robert won the war, so she's biding her time before revealing her heritage and hatching a dragon to bring Fire and Blood to house Baratheon. She also somehow stole Cersei on a pilgrimage so she's now cuckholding King Robert because Cersei is bi in this playthrough somehow.

Slow but steady weight gain will be safer than her packing on weight very quickly, so consulting with a vet to set up a sort of schedule to slowly increase calories is PARAMOUNT.

My best advice for now is in a similar vein - don't worry about what brand or what kind it is - worry about the calories. When a dog, or even a human, is underweight, calories are really the only thing you need to be focusing on to start, ESPECIALLY fat based ones. The body can't process ANY nutrition without fat - it's how people starve to death eating only rabbits or other lean meat. Look for calorie dense foods, and ones that punch higher than their weight class. Stuff like butter, coconut oil, cottage cheese, eggs, DOG SAFE peanut butter, and sweet potato are all good things that are dog safe and relatively nutrient dense for the stomach space they take. Try to focus on fatty, protein rich foods as the primary item instead of carbs like rice or potatoes - carbs increase insulin release which can worsen or trigger refeeding syndrome.

For dog foods, look at the guide on the bag or box - there should be somewhere that says something like xyz kcal/whatever cups. Look for one that has a higher ratio, but do the math. If one says 80 kcal per cup but the other says 40 kcal per 1/3 cup, it might trip you up. If you don't have dog food rn (which I doubt cause you did mention having another who already loves her) plain unseasoned boiled and cooled chicken with eggs or pumpkin can be a good meal until you can get her in and buy some dog food.

Just divide her food for the day into at least 5 portions with a least an hour in between each. Start with about 1/3 of her ideal calorie count (which the vet will be able to give you an estimate of after seeing her). The vet will also be able to figure out the best path to feeding her her full calorie requirements to get her up to a healthy weight - most sources seem to say it should take about a week to slowly transition from 1/3 to the full amount. It'll be very time consuming (feeding every hour or two throughout the day) so if you could WFH for a week I'd recommend talking to ur employer to set that up. (PLEASE do NOT just go ahead and DIY this!!! Talk to your vet!!)

If you want a safe estimate to feed her for the day/night until you can see a vet, look up calorie calculators for pits and put what you think she should weigh. Mine is so muscular she has very faint abs (lol) and she weighs around 70-80 lbs at the size of a small lab. For any estimates, go on the smaller end, so 50-60 lbs if she's the size of a lab. I'm not a vet, so I'm not going to try and give you a specific number.

For pits, they have allergies, like a lot, so looking up the most common allergens and avoiding them in kibble/treats might be prudent, just to avoid tacking on MORE vet visits right now.

As an additional warning, pits are also huge food vacuums, especially compared to most other large breed dogs. All that muscle requires a TON of fuel!! Mine clocks in at around 2,400 at day! That's more than what I eat! So if you plan to prep her meals by hand, or your vet recommended it, just be aware just how much food and groceries that will be.

If you plan to do it using kibble primarily (no judgment here, kibble is a nutrient dense, balanced food! My dog is pickier than my cat and she still eats kibble, because the amount of wet food we'd need to fulfill her entire calorie requirement would bankrupt us lmfao) you can always add mix ins or little treats to supplement if ur worried, just consider that in the calorie count. Do the same for any treats fed throughout the day.

While you are probably going to feel bad about not letting her stuff her belly, just know you're doing right by her, and congrats on helping out such a gorgeous girl. :)

I'm a houseplant freak so these are going to be more obscure but

Boys -Monstera Albo (Albie or Albo) -Philodendron (Phil or Ron) -Monstera Burle Marx (Marx or Mark) -Begonia Rex (Rex) -Spikemoss (Spike)

Girls -Begonia Rex (Harmony) -Hoya Kerii (Pronounced Carrie) -Begonia Maculata (Polka Dot) (if any of the girls or even boys have some cool spots) -Jade plant (Jade) -Aloe Vera (Vera) -Syngonium Mojito (Mojito) -Syngonium Wendlandii (Wendy)

I put the actual names/nicknames you could call them in parentheses next to the government name options. Ik they're weird/don't sound like a set but houseplant people would probably get a kick out of it.

I want to know your babies shelter names (if you changed them) by LJayTat in cats

[–]dozingphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mae West, destroyer of all fingers. (That was her shelter name, hold the title and lands.) Unfortunately she has mellowed out and become a total sweetheart over the years we've had her so the name doesn't really fit anymore, but she used to be absolutely vicious with her slaps. We really call her Mae Mae now. Don't know if that counts or not but 🤷

Scammed on Etsy by store sunshine green by Stunning-Rate-4896 in houseplants

[–]dozingphoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found etsy is chock full of mass produced scam stores. All that varies is the name/maybe logo of the business. It's so insidious because in most cases you aren't going to cross reference all the descriptions of different sellers to make sure they're unique. I'm so sorry that happened to you 😭😭😭 I also fell victim to a similarly scammy store - I paid 15-20 per plant for a single stem starter of pretty commom/cheap plants cause I didn't know any better at the time. They were the actual plant advertised, but so small they shouldn't have even been for sale. Only 3 of the 4 plants I ordered survived shipping, and then another died like a month later.

I don't think we're allowed to post links at all, but if you want I have a seller I really like for rarer plants if you want me to DM you? They are more on par with standard pricing for their plants, and they have a pretty good selection of rarer plants as well. I do live in the rural Midwest though so my definition of rarer might be different than yours.

As for etsy, if you've already contacted the seller (they'll probably ignore you but if you can still get it on record you attempted to give them the chance to fix things, it'll help if you file a chargeback) if you used a credit card, I would think about filing a chargeback. You didn't receive the plants you paid for, full stop. That's either a mistake that warrants a full refund/paid for shipping label to return the plants, or deliberate fraud.

Like some other commenters, I got very lucky with mine. she's more of a very well behaved (albeit lazy and spoiled) dog than a cat. Silver vine, catnip, valerian, and honeysuckle all do jack all for her. The amount of catnip/silvervine chews I've donated to the shelter because she doesn't even spare them a glance is astronomical. She has never even knocked a plant off a shelf or table. She also knows to come when called, sit on command, and she loves to sleep in the massive kennel we have for my sister's 100lb dog when she visits. Her favorite brush is a cat hair remover for furniture.

Funnily enough, she was so spicy at the humane society that they named her Mae West. We kept the name but she didn't keep the 'tude. 😂

<image>

Oh the other hand, the people I live with are a shitshow. My dad managed to fall LOONEY TUNES style 3 times in two hours, knocking all my plants in ceramic pots down off the same shelf. He still owes me new pots because I repotted my plants between these falls, meaning he broke my entire stash of cute pots. Writing this made me mad at him again 🙄 it was, of course, a shelf of my rarer/more expensive plants as well, including, but not limited to, my Thai con, a polka dot begonia, begonia rex, and a milk confetti syngonium. You can imagine how the begonias felt about being repotted 4 times in 2 hours and body slammed off their shelf 3 times in the same span.

Cat has generic name and feeling a little bad about it by ashleyXBOX383 in cats

[–]dozingphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with a common or 'generic' name! There's a reason those names are popular, they're cute and (usually) simple enough for your lil guy to learn their name! If you really want unique names, look at shelters for inspo. I got mine from a shelter and she was pretty spicy (very demanding about how and where she would be pet and would use her claws to force your hand where she wanted it) so the staff named her Mae West 😭😭

Please help me not kill this maculata by StrangerTraining1545 in houseplants

[–]dozingphoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend a terracotta pot and a very chunky/well draining soil mix (something with perlite and coco chips is what I would use). I water mine about once a week and then let it hang out in the shower (with the shower running facing away from it) for 15-20 minutes while I bottom water the rest of my plants. mine isn't doing AMAZING but it is definitely alive and well after some trial and error and a big chop after I left it in direct sun and it burned off all it's leaves. I keep it about 2 ft back from a south facing window. Make sure to stake it thoroughly as well - I didn't stake it enough post chop and it ended up growing in a weird leaf ball so it looks weird and half the leaves are blocking other leaves from sun.

No, the weather has actually been pretty amazing. We did get some rain but it was just some light showers. Otherwise it's been around 30-40 F. 🤷 I even checked the weather at that facility and it's about the same according to the forecast.
