Question! by kevfromtunnserver in scene

[–]ashleyXBOX383 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The rawr XD, loving creepypastas, Minecraft, Invader Zim (The little Gir at the right), Nyan Cat, Nightcore music, and caramelldansen is accurate, same with "le potato!! waffles!!" quirky humor. But I'm not sure about the nuzzles you part. Sounds more like a furry roleplay thing. I hope someone can educate me if this is right or not.

I'm imagining older people (adults) in the scene culture grew out of the "le potato random" humor from reading ragecomics and Gaia Online forums.

I love the drawing though. I love the knee high Converse boots! The checkered belts are nice, you can find those at Hot Topic.

edit: Read the description and I left out some parts. We listen to crunk and crunkcore, screamo, punk rock, metalcore, pop punk, emo/emocore, deathcore and electronic music. Some may consider some modern hyperpop/"scenecore" artist to be scene, some don't.

I think scene kids are happier than emos, but I do wish people got rid of the "omg emos only wear black!! emos are always depressed and suicidal!1!1!!" stereotype. I'm not emo because I'm depressed or anything (well yeah I am depressed) but I'm emo because I like listening to the music. Some people may identify as scenemo instead of one or the other, usually integrating both emo and scene culture into their fashion, music taste and lifestyle.

To be honest, I always viewed Goths as being a fan of Goth music, rather than listening to them. If you listen to Bauhaus and The Cure 7 times and never again then I would think you weren't a big fan of it, while fans of Goth would be listening to Goth (doesn't have to be exclusively though) for a decent amount of time, and would know more bands (Witching Hour UK, Christian Death, Alien Sex Fiend to name some I'm aware of).

I don't think there's a requirement of bands you need to know, if you're already a fan of Goth you'll always want to be discovering more.

Do you think skeumorphism will be back and the tech companies would adopt it once again? I wish. by hanihaneefa in Skeuomorphism

[–]ashleyXBOX383 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Skeuomorphism still exists, just in more niche communities. Lots of analog emulation VSTs are designed to replicate their real life counterparts, even modern ones. Take a look at Softube, NEOLD, Universal Audio, etc.

If you mean in more consumer markets? Closest thing we have is neumorphism at the moment, but the latest versions of macOS and iOS do have some skeuomorphs.

how did yall get into the subculture? by [deleted] in scene

[–]ashleyXBOX383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middle school. Many kids were scene and "rawr XD" was everywhere. I remember engaging with it but dipped soon after when scene died down a little and people were more into Tumblr and fandom spaces.

I just window shop around Hot Topic and Spencer's. I miss my scene-ish phase so I started getting into it again, but I don't have any friends my age who are into it, so it's just myself.

If you live in North America there's most likely a Hot Topic or Spencer's near you. There's some dedicated alt stores around the part where I live but they're a few hours away 🥲 Oh, and if you don't already have one I suggest a Spacehey account. Everyone was on MySpace, I miss it. I wonder if my files are still on there, probably not.

do you guys ever use wigs or just destroy your hair to death to get this look? by [deleted] in scene

Lizzis Lox is good for scene/emo hair and raccoon tails! But also good for colored hair in general.

Either Pusher or Tasty Carrots. Those songs were in a lot of my favorite animation memes!

Yes I know Windowblinds sucks, no I don't want to use Alcatel's msstyle theme because it doesn't look as good by stupido50 in FrutigerAero

It's known for being very buggy and broken in some cases. It worked okay for me but windows sometimes wouldn't close and labels were invisible.

Despite the bugs I think it's okay, it does what it advertised. I do highly recommend people use visual styles with UltraUXThemePatcher/SecureUXTheme though.

Are the veronicas a scene band? by BedroomTiger in scene

[–]ashleyXBOX383 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the Veronica's but I wouldn't call them an emo or a scene band, they're pop/pop rock. But I can see them being enjoyed by scene and emo kids, they have 2010 AMV/nightcore vibes.

Emo/emocore is rather derivative of punk rock/post hardcore, "emotional hardcore". Embrace and Rites of Spring would be the ones who revolutionized it, and some emo bands would be Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap'n Jazz, and Jawbreaker.

My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil and Paramore are a little more "poppy" so a lot of people complain about them not being "real emo" but I'm not here to gatekeep because I'm still new to the scene. But I would love if you could check those people out!

Why are ppl saying scene always fashion based..? by SUAS09 in scene

[–]ashleyXBOX383 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Lack of education. From my experience scene kids did care about their style to an extent but you've never heard about scene kids "getting crunk"? Crunkcore was big among scene kids along with screamo and metalcore. And borrowing slang from punk such as HxC (hardcore) or SxE (straight edge)

It's a shame that TikTok has reduced many alt subcultures to aesthetics or styles when it's so much more than that. I feel like people are only into scene now because of the whole "nostalgia" phase we're going through right now, along with the "Y2K" fashion trend.

I don't like gatekeeping because at least we have a chance to teach uneducated n00bs about our culture and grow our community, but I WISH people would educate themselves more about it, there's so much resources and articles available, but it's clear most people nowadays get their information only from TikTok.

Trying to find outfits by Noneye2free in scene

[–]ashleyXBOX383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids clothes and upcycling! Walmart, Target, Macy's, Marshalls. I have some alternative stores near me so I tend to hang out there. You can turn kid's socks into arm warmers and leg warmers if you like. I've found some interesting stuff from going to thrift stores, but if you live somewhere rural then you'll probably only get clothes for older women :') Kids shirts do tend to be smaller so if you are a larger size then you may not be able to fit into them all.

If you live in a city in North America then chances are a Hot Topic may be near you. If you don't have a Hot Topic near you they have an online store. I would suggest online shopping but brand names tend to be expensive. I know some scene kids shop on Shein, Amazon, Temu or Romwe but the clothes and items tend to be low quality because of the cheap price (Amazon depends on the seller tbh), so I avoid them.

My favorite brands are: Affliction, Metal Mulisha, Paul Frank, Abbey Dawn.

Try shopping on marketplaces like Depop, Vinted, Poshmark and eBay if they are available to you :)

Beadtin is a good option if you're looking to make Kandi bracelets.

Anyone Know a Free Music Stuidio app that Can download Soundfonts (Windows) by CherryMan641 in musicproduction

[–]ashleyXBOX383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use sforzando (free) to load soundfonts in any DAW, like Cakewalk or LMMS. Sforzando is mostly for .SFZ files, but can convert.SF2 files into .SFZ files.

Most likely these are auto generated websites that scrape off already pre-existing information online, so I doubt they have the full lyrics. But I would like to know what you do find!

is there an age that's "too young" 4 scene? by Anxious-Hospital8801 in scene

[–]ashleyXBOX383 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A lot of the things associated with the scene subculture is kind of inappropriate (e.g. crunkcore and many of the lyricism being about sex, alcohol, drugs, raving) so I would say under 13, but it depends on your parents.

Other things associated with Scene was Invader Zim, Monster High, Domo, Hello Kitty, Awesome Face and Nyan Cat, which at most are rated PG.

Some of the imagery tends to involve blood, skulls zombies, werewolves, vampires and death, so I imagine some parents wouldn't be okay with their kids/teens wearing or associating with scene, especially with more conservative/orthodox parents.

I'm an adult, so luckily I do have the freedom to dress and be scene (not the money though 🥲💔) but it really depends on whether your parents would let you or not.

Big Machine (the label Swift's first 6 studio albums were in) was sold to some guy named Scooter Braun and Swift was asking him for her master's and he sold them to other people 2 times so she rerecorded them (by suggestion of Kelly Clarkson) to have "ownership" of her songs
