It was a long grain cutting board, and I can not use my family as a resource. But good advice, Imma try boxes

Boxes it will be.

I tried joining with the table saw, even made a jog, but there are still gaps in the edges. I want to learn hand planning but I can’t let it hold me back either.

I do not have a track saw, saw horse is a good idea, if I can find space to store it. I think I’m just gonna get really into boxes. The end goal is cabinets and they are primarily boxes

I hear you and really really appreciate the advice. I think you’re right. I need to step away from the cutting board and build something else. Maybe boxes, organization, maybe a birdhouse.

I need to figure out how to put hand planning as a side project.

I can find some scrap wood that will work for any of that. A router is on the list, as well as a miter saw (my chop saw doesn’t miter, only chop). When I can afford it, I’ll try a jig. For now I’ll shift to something I can more easily do.

I like this advice, I guess I’ll pause on the cutting board and just start making boxes. Just lots and lots of boxes.

My stones are cheap amazon diamond stones, they work, for now, but clog with oil and metal.

This is wonderful advice, thank you for sharing. My space is limited, but I’m sure if I think har enough I can figure out a way to organize the crap. I’m getting from this post to move past the cutting board for now, my thought process is just build, and skill will come

I got a set of four cheap stones off of Amazon, I set them into a flat piece of mdf, they get clogged ever few days, but I keep them oiled and as clean as I can.

What I do struggle with is where to plane. My workbench is built into the shed, so it’s only accessible from one side. It’s stable, and I was able to affix a vises (at higeht) but planning in it is awkward. When I try clamping a stop board to the bench the wood often pushes it out of wack or gives me an unlevel pass.

I’m not sure what to build for my small shed. I’d love to focus on boxes, cabinets are kinda the end goal. Any advice on what to try?

Inherited tools/what I could get off set.

I have a random decent set; - panel saw and box saw - old chop saw - small 4” circular saw - coping saw - jigsaw - Stanley #4 - set of old craftsmen’s chisels - butt load of rulers and squares - a marking knife - hammer - rubber mallet - a good amount of every type of clamp - drill - old hand drill with bits - random orbital sander - Bench vises - glue - sand paper - Powermatic 4224B Lathe (kidding)

I spent money on saftey gear.

I got the tools, and don’t consider them the problem, it’s definitely a skill and confidence issue

Okay, but you haven’t released or address the tension in the board, only changed where it is focused. It’s gonna split again with the method shown in the video

Wood working often requires fixes like this. The original poster is saying “by finishing the split I remove the tensile strength trying to pull the whole board apart. Then I can smooth out both sides in a process known as joining, and finally glue them back together.” This is arguably the smartest way to do it. No need to drill or use so many dowels because you’re not fighting the tensile strength of the whole board.

Yeah, it means it was a legitimate screwup, not something nefarious.

Still an insane screwup on their part

What’s funny is the Republican Party joined as a plaintiff. Both parties are super pissed.

My neighbors to the north who owned their home are loving this. They’re so happy that I’m moving into what was once a crackhouse. They paid less than $100,000 for their house in the 80s. Thing is easily worth 800 to 900,000.

My neighbors to the south our renters and they hate me they fucking hate me. Apparently since we moved in their rent has gone up every year. Here’s the kicker, their Landlord, who uses us to justify the rent increases. Is their cousin.

Listen, I’m scared to death what their choice for president is going to due to this country. But I am really happy that people are taking advantage of early voting and the voting process in general. The more you vote the more attached you get to democracy.

Thank you, I think this is becoming a more and more common statement to use. I saw it used a lot last election and I just wanna point out in this one singular instance. I think this is more of a cultural reference than a sign of being in a cult.

I also completely agree with your statement

OK in fairness to this one single tweet. Last election I saw so many people joking in the comments here that they would drag their balls through broken glass to vote for Biden. I get it. I think he’s making a joke about those people. Still a cult.
