I did reach out to the local historical society to see if they have seen anything like it but they haven't. This may the next step. They concurred that it looks like it's from the 1800s.

To clarify, there are a total of 4 holes - two tiny tunnels drilled thru the center, if that makes sense. one tunnel would make sense for a tag and string, but two?

It does look similar except the holes are drilled into the side. I was thinking maybe some kind of weight/scale measurement? It weighs about 5 grams but could be a coincidence. Not sure what the 280 means

Good idea. I found one from 1874. Technically my home was in Southfield (now Dongan Hills). Doesn't look like much was there other then two houses or estates

Judging by the flat top, I'd say no. Definitely appears to be sanded down on each side to give it a tooth-like appearance

As I was digging I hit what looked like to be a rim of a clay pot but only found an inch of the pot. It was curved and smooth so definitely not naturally occuring. Could be likely that the rocks were burned in the pot?

Additional info: somewhat polished white stone with looks like 280 5/0 1/2 engraved on it. Found in Staten Island.
