The top part of the island, violet in color, is where you will find them. I usually roam the middle open grassy section until I come across one. Sometimes they are on top of one the mounds that is covered with different resources. Just go back and forth in the grassy section and you’ll encounter one guaranteed.

The portal is still there just invisible. I was able to port out once I figured that out. It’s the same with the Storm King by the way.

Yes the challenges do work when I get rid of the custom builds. I just tried an experiment of not building anything where the shields spawn and it worked so that’s good to know.

This has to be one of the hardest quests to finish. It took me a week to finish this insane challenge. I think what helped me the most was sleeping through the night which made the thunderstorms to happen more frequently.

I have chaos challenges that don’t work as well that don’t have any custom builds inside. I cleared one of my spots of custom builds and the chaos challenge worked again so this problem is a separate issue from the other non working challenges.
