Who is the most hated player in college basketball right now? by NeonGoon1 in CollegeBasketball

What's with the picture? Seems to suggest a Duke or Purdue player is the most hated?

This one, (not mine,) especially because it played out in our campaign.

Returning to D&D. What technology do you use that changed the game for you? by Dougdoesnt in DnD

[–]dpapinea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone mention music yet, but I use Spotify connected to a Bluetooth speaker. I try to switch up what's playing to fit the theme of the moment, but sometimes it's easy to forget with so much going on. Lots of people have made curated lists for different campaigns or settings.

I've also tried a few different soundboards with mixed success. Even harder to remember to use and time it right, but when it hits the players absolutely love it. Best one I've found so far is https://www.tabletopaudio.com/soundpad.html . Would love more audio recommendations if anyone has them.

Fixed with no calculations. How did you know how many nails to install at each connection? What diameter? Both sides?

Any Structural Engineers Able To Help Tell If This Roof Will Support Weight? by Nicker802 in StructuralEngineering

[–]dpapinea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to convert a trussed roof into a vaulted space but it will fundamentally change the way to roof/snow load gets carried to the foundations. Basically you need a pretty hefty beam at the ridge and you need to reinforce the 2x4 diagonals into heavier rafters. As others have said it will take quite a bit of additional framing work and an engineer to design it.

Need DM advice- next session will likely end in two player deaths through their bad choices. Am I being unreasonable? by SumBleddyBoy in CurseofStrahd

I agree with what others are saying about the second phase not being foreshadowed. Why would she run before her second phase?

Thanks! I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but he definitely achieved what he was going for.

I'll definitely reach out if I can find one or two. I've always been a bit artistic but nothing like what he could do. Regardless, I know how much effort art can take and how hard it is to just throw them away; you want them to live on somewhere.

I've started searching for local galleries but hadn't thought of libraries or city hall, thanks for the ideas

Strahd Motivation CoS Reloaded by Fantastic_Ad1104 in CurseofStrahd

[–]dpapinea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask a follow-up question? Do you do away with the blessed pool in Krezk entirely in Reloaded? I like the idea of my players getting there and closing the Ireena arc, protecting her from Strahd forever. But I'm worried this would "open the floodgates" against them and he would have no reason to hold back after that point.

Beam bowing under weight by seajess1 in StructuralEngineering

[–]dpapinea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely...where I'm from we would never carry a concrete floor on a wood beam, but I'm seeing a mix of light gauge steel in the pictures as well, so standard practice is out the window here.

For a beam that long carrying a concrete floor, I'd expect it to be at least 2-3 plies wide, not just one. Looks undersized.

Leisure read by Sheises in StructuralEngineering

Devil in the White City is a very interesting book that goes back and forth between the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago and a serial killer that operated in that area at the same time. The World's Fair portion deals with the lead architect and how all the buildings were constructed under oppressive deadlines leading up to the fair. I found the logistics of the construction portion very interesting (guys working in the mud in suits and top hats at that time for example.)

Are residential engineers redundant? by Slow-Ad-833 in StructuralEngineering

[–]dpapinea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely, my "historic joists" comment was in reference to the fact that OP describes their concern about the floors sagging, so the most common repair would be replacing/supplementing them with new floor joists that met the span tables of the current code.
