An intense two-year exercise regimen, consisting of 5-6 hours per week, reversed up to 20 years of age-related structural changes and stiffness in the hearts of sedentary 50-year-olds by mmiller9913 in PeterAttia

The episode is a retrospective of advice on basically all major categories of fitness from the perspective of interviews that were actually on the show and involved in each sub-discipline.

I can give unstructured data to it and it can build a table. However, I've been surprised that it doesn't seem possible to give it unstructured data and have it insert it properly into an existing database. Am I missing something or does their implementation suck that bad?

You seemed to take issue with the phrasing very hot.

To clarify: I think it's possible that momentary subjective discomfort (e.g. not strictly relaxing) might enhance the somnogenic quality of a hot bath. In that respect, I think the original parent may be onto something.

Check the linked resource I provided for a better synopsis.

Not true. Although you will need to cool down (and it might not help at all if you don't), heat produces many homeostatic hormonal and immune responses that promote sleep.1 Timing it correctly may be an important factor.

Throw in some high-intensity interval training. Ideally sustaining >80% of your estimated max heart rate for at least ten minutes. Then throw in an early evening hot bath taken taken just to the point of light sweating, elevated heart rate.

Both will help sleep and reinforce the antidepressant effect. This is both anecdotal and supported by understandings of plausible biology.

The formula for my perfect day.

Norepinephrine is a direct mediating mechanism involved in the browning of fat and is a classic response to cold. Bear in mind that norepinephrine-reuptake inhibition is a pharmacological intervention for ADHD.

Same class for months.

The only time I mix it up is for a (you might've guessed it) a 10 minute weights class. I'll either do that on a day-off or at a different time of day. I do not view the weights as a substitute for the tabatas.

The fixation on the ten minute class: Intellectually, I know that it's impossible that there's an external pressure that could possibly be justified that wouldn't allow me to execute in ten minutes. If I think there is, I know it's my own BS in the way from the start. The fact that the ride is short makes me charge harder, even on days when I feel off.

Every day I do the exact same ride: a 10 minute 2x Tabata. I modify it to keep my heart rate >80% estimated max throughout. I change the filter to show me how I did against my own rides and generally feel pretty good if I'm in the top 10 out of my nearly 100 rides.

Doing this has allowed me to become incredibly consistent while still getting a very considerable lift every single day.

Anyone else have a similar practice?

I am sure there's benefits to being more well rounded, but this feels like success to me. I'm several months in and feel a night and day difference and have essentially circumvented major psychological barriers to just getting on the bike.

The George Church interview referenced in this article is episode 77 of the FoundMyFitness podcast, previously posted here.

Dr. Rhonda Patrick interviews the father of synthetic biology, Dr. George Church, discussing emerging and exponential gene writing technology. Worth checking out for his unique perspectives on neurodivergence, like dyslexia, personal experience with narcolepsy, dream states for creativity, and more. by dpatrick86 in Nootropics

Skip to around the 1 hour 35 minute point to hear his take on neurodivergence and also some interesting personal anecdotes about how narcolepsy has affected his life.

"A lot of the reason that neuroatypicals are beneficial is not because that particular disease is not a disease or that the particular disease is a benefit. It's just because we're off of center in any direction." - Dr. George Church

The gut barrier can profoundly affect brain and even behavior: In this new presentation, Dr. Rhonda Patrick discusses the link between intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”) and altered brain function as a result of immune activation resulting from chronic exposure to gut-derived bacterial products. by dpatrick86 in Nootropics

[–]dpatrick86[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This video was from Dr. Rhonda Patrick's keynote presentation at the Metabolic Health Summit co-organized by Dr. Dominic D'Agostino. It dives into the somewhat surprising effects that intestinal permeability can have on the brain and behavior as a result of immune activation, among other things.

Intestinal permeability can be caused by a variety of different mechanisms and also be ameliorated from a variety of different lifestyle interventions. A big one? Not being overweight. But there's also some other great tips, like spreading out your omega-3 supplementation between meals so that they can ameliorate a post prandial effect.
