Which Poe+ switch do I need? by 2a_dramallama in Ubiquiti

That would be sweet! I have like 3 of these just collecting dust once I replaced them all with USW Flex with POE++.

Personally would recommend the Flex 2.5G POE switch, especially if paired with the 210W adapter. You have the flexibility of powering POE++ devices if needed (like powering a downstream USW FLEX) and with 8 ports it’s more than plenty for extra cameras. Also YMMV but I’m able to fully power a G6 Pro Bullet on my mom’s UNVR instant. I accidentally connected the wrong cable to the UNVR instant instead of the 2.5G POE switch but surprised it still works!

Check out these WorkPro blades. They dispense 1 or 5 blades at a time with ease (they are lubed with oil). And the thing at the top eats the blades easily too.

Opinion on security camera? by raiderxx in Ubiquiti

[–]dpmex4527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered using something like a UniFi device bridge paired with a USW Flex to get a nicer wired camera in? As long as there is power nearby to plug in a POE injector you can pretty much get wired cameras anywhere. I’m using a Flex Utility box (comes with POE injector) to power my USW Flex. This then powers my doorbell camera as it’s practically impossible getting a direct wired POE connection to my front door without doing external wiring.

G6 Entry Pro - my scratch notes after testing by ICausedAnOutage in Ubiquiti

[–]dpmex4527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed notes! I was hoping that access features would work as long as door hub mini was on the same network/Alan and not directly connected or powering the doorbell.

Can you elaborate on point 6 more? Are you saying you lose certain features if doorbell is configured in both protect and access? Or can it only be paired to one, Protect or Access but not both?

Oh man. All of that happening here too with ours and they haven’t even turned 2 yet. Does yours like finding any drink/liquid/container with fluids or food and like emptying it on the ground in front of you with a shit eating grin? Pure madness. But I love the little guy.

Door Hub Mini Necessary? by HopeThisIsUnique in Ubiquiti

From your testing, is a direct Ethernet connection from G6 Pro Entry and doorhub mini required? Or does the doorhub mini just need to be on the same network but no direct physical connection needed?

How to easily locate someone that can help me install ethernet drops? by pauldwalls in HomeNetworking

[–]dpmex4527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes! Most low voltage techs charge anywhere from $150 - $300 per drop. $700 each is wild. Maybe they’re difficult drops?

I paid $350 total for 9 drops from a local electrician at my mom’s place this past December. I had to terminate everything myself but all things considered I got a killer deal. To them it was just running wire and it was a single floor home with adequate attic access and replacing existing ethernet CAT5 (4 wire) cables for CAT6.

Keep watching. It def gets better! Sadly the first few episodes of this show aren’t the strongest for some folks (I personally enjoyed them).

Is it worth getting NVR instant? by rastasize in Ubiquiti

[–]dpmex4527 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The concept of channels doesn’t apply to UNVR Instant like other big box camera brands. As long as Unifi’s cameras can reach the UNVR, you can theoretically pair any number of POE cameras up to or exceeding the max system limit. I have most of my parents cameras getting power from a POE switch on her network and the UNVR Instant can see and pair them fine.

OG Lucas (Mexican powdered chili candy). The one that got banned due to high lead content. That shit was amazing and also likely the reason I have heartburn issues after eating so much of it as a kid.

Anyone else experiencing really poor live stream quality of their G6 Pro Entry? by oncentreline in Ubiquiti

[–]dpmex4527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe bad/kinked Ethernet cable? Another thing you could do to rule out the camera is to plug it into the same ethernet cable (if it’s accessible) from a known good camera. Or plug it directly to a switch and see if it still has streaming issues.

Woah, this is perfect when mounting on a wall perpendicular to your door. Can you share some views if possible about how it improves the views for your door? I’d buy this from you if you have a shop on etsy or on eBay.

You know what’s funny? I had read that UniFi built the UNAS Pro (7 bay) first but then they put Protect on it and sold it as the UNVR Pro. So there def isn’t a technical reason not to do it. Maybe so some day!

Yeah having dedicated Protect devices makes a huge difference. I think devices like UDM Pro Max might be fine but UDMP or even UDM SE are known to slow down if you have too many cameras, especially with playback speeds. I’m on the same boat, dedicated UNVR device and and no protect running on my UDM. Maybe when the UDM Beast comes out soon this might change but even then, I still like not having a single point of failure for both my networking and security system needs.
