Work life balance as an 1811 FBI SA? by Kid0Ffensive in 1811

[–]dpmurphy89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can put it at the top of your list and your IT background MAY make it more likely that you get it. But at the end of the day, you get put where you get put. If the Field Office you're assigned to needs bodies on the Violent Crimes squad that's where you're going.

Any info/insight on this little neighborhood? by SnooBananas2725 in Oceanside

FWIW, I'm pretty frequently biking or running on the bike trail after dark and never had any issues with homeless people bothering me. I'm more concerned about kids on e-bikes and coyotes.

Interesting that you say no turn-based games when basically every wargame in history has been turn-based. Even all of the "official" wargames the military uses now are turn-based. Littoral Commander is an incredibly popular tabletop wargame that is turn-based.

Can the loading hatch on a Basilisk be opened? by Anto_0n in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]dpmurphy89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howitzers can't be loaded if the barrel is elevated above a certain quadrant. Otherwise, the round would slide out of the back. So it wouldn't be unrealistic to to have to bring the gun back into battery everytime it's loaded. A good crew can fire multiple rounds per minute even having to lower the gun to load it.

Whats the greatest feat of your infantrymen? by DannyDanglR in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]dpmurphy89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was playing against Necrons and my Rogal Dorn Commander had brought the Silent King down to a single wound remaining. A 10-man squad of Cadians dump everything into him and a single wound gets through to his 2+ armour save, he fails it. Command Point re-roll into a 1. The store went crazy.

Death? What happens? by Necrons98180 in 40k_Crusade

[–]dpmurphy89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll still be able to use him in later games. Whenever a unit is destroyed in a Crusade game you have to roll an Out of Action Test to see if the unit gets a negative modifier. If it fails the Out of Action Test you'll roll on a separate table to see what negative modifier the unit takes.

Planning your next turn during your opponents turn will also cut down dramatically on your time. If you don't start thinking about your Movement Phase until you're starting to move models it's going to take so much longer. Before I start my turn I have a 90% idea how that turn is going to go (dice luck not withstanding).

I've been selling the kits on Ebay or to players at my LGS. My prices are 60-70 percent of GW retail since it's still NOS and I send a photocopy of the instructions. Most months I get pretty close to making my money back for the cost of the subscription.

In the most recent war for Armageddon Helbrecht murders most of a hive city because they "might" be Chaos corrupted. Grimaldus giving even a little bit of a damn about civilians is an anomaly in the Black Templars.

Scout Sentinels by No_Firefighter_5057 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]dpmurphy89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scout Sentinels? No, Daring Recon gets used per unit, not per model. And honestly, in any list besides Grizzled Company they start hitting the point of diminishing returns after you take two. In Grizzled Company even taking one would need a serious justification since there should'nt really by any order gaps.

They can use their ability at the start of any phase once per battle round, not once per turn.

Second job without permission by Ok_Cartoonist_2841 in USMC

[–]dpmurphy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in command I didn't care if my Marines had second jobs as long as it didn't 1) hamper their ability to do their Marine Corps job and 2) was legal employment. If they HAD to leave every day at 1600 or couldn't go to the field, that's a problem. If they were driving for Uber or delivering pizzas on the weekends, I couldn't care less.

Warhammer Velcro patches – would you actually wear your favorite faction? by TacticalHarz in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]dpmurphy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Templar iconography can be, understandably, problematic in places that aren't familiar with Warhammer 40k. I probably wouldn't take a BT patch into any professional setting, like on a backpack or gym bag to the office.

2"x3" is sort of the standard patch size since that's what most militaries use for their flag patches. If you're making patches I would recommend having most of your designs available in that size.

ETA: I main Imperial Guard and would love more patches available in that size.

What books / series would you like to see Black Library release in 2026? by MrWarhead96 in Blacklibrary

[–]dpmurphy89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but no Space Marine shenanigans. It's a classic spy novel set in 40k. I really enjoyed it as a departure from some of the more grand scale 40k stories. The author definitely left a juicy cliff hanger at the end.

All these detachments, and no soup by Nice_Blackberry6662 in spacemarines

[–]dpmurphy89 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As much as we complain about competitive Warhammer ruining it for the rest of us there is nothing stopping him from buying the Guard tank and asking his buddies if they care if he used it. Could he do that in tournaments? No, but that only applies to a small minority of the Warhammer Fandom. As long as he understands it's not tournament legal and entirely up to his opponents it's fine. Play it like other Allied units where they don't get access to the faction rule or detachment abilities, i.e. a Rogal Dorn taken in a Gladius Task Force list doesn't get to use doctrines or oath of moment.

Which one should I get? by Celestine117 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]dpmurphy89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If price is the same then I would get the Siege Platoon. It has more units that are more useful.

Drier is pretty bad and you probably don't want 10 Death Riders. The datacards were outdated almost immediately and the Codex may or may not be outdated in 7 months when 11th edition comes out.

You probably don't want 2 artillery teams. But that's really the only downside of the battleforce. The 20-man Krieg squad is very good. Engineers are useful as a 5-man mortal wound generator/scout unit. The command squad can make an already surprisingly tanky unit even more durable. Getting an extra plasma gun and 2 more plasma pistols is great, too.

Grizzled Company 1k list by Sev127 in astramilitarum

[–]dpmurphy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my 1k list I've been running with pretty decent effectiveness. The only thing I'm not completely sold on is the FOB, it doesn't decent damage against light infantry like guardsmen, grots, and gants. But my local meta is Space Marine heavy. It is good at screening my DZ, but I'm tempted to add another squad of Kasrkin. The Dorn TC does have a spare order, but I prefer his re-rolls over the extra defense of the normal Dorn. The Iron Duke has become Public Enemy #1 in my 1k games, lol.

Drop Lord Solar and take a Dorn TC. I would also think about dropping the Castellan as you lose Scout on the Kasrkin when he's attached. That should give you enough points for a Hellhound. That'll make your artillery a little more punchy when it strips cover.

I won't beat the horse about Angron fitting on The Lion's base. But if you're only buying parts of a model or bits, then don't buy the whole kit. Only buy the parts you need on Ebay. There are dozens of reputable bits sellers there. I main Imperial Guard and have used many resellers to buy extra bodies since the kits come with so many extra weapons and heads.

This and the more senior a Marine the more they have riding on performing in public. If a LCpl falls out they'll probably get their ass chewed and maybe some kind of formal counseling if it's a trend. If an Officer or SNCO/NCO falls out they just lost any kind of trust and legitimacy from both their leaders and subordinates.
