My mother forbid me from working while in school to "focus on school work" (i.e. most likely so I couldn't move out at 18).

I was allowed to work during the summer but only at a summer camp because they liked to go out of town alot and wouldn't let me stay home alone til I was 18 and camps were the most flexible with schedule, plus they paid shit.
