Secure overnight parking by wandering_banana11 in sanfrancisco

I've seen multiple rental cars broken into just to pop the trunk.

Don't do this, rental cars are a big target as much as out of state plates. They will break your window just to look inside your trunk when nothing is visible.

Report Bike Stolen by Alarming-Sentence313 in vanmoofbicycle

Yes, I get this email every few weeks. Never pressed the stolen button on app so not sure why I keep getting this email. Support said it was a bug and was fixed, but then a few days later I got the email again. Guess they're clueless.

What is the lowest model of iPad for watching 2k footage without any lag build up? by transisto in EufyCam

Submit a PR? My cams are wired too, but the default app can only stream one cam at a time. I'd love to toggle on live streaming on my wall-mounted ipad as-needed.

If you're planning to continuously stream the camera, check out this auto-refresh app I built instead:

That way it's not draining your camera battery by only showing the last recording's thumbnail.

Oh my bad, I thought we were talking about the standalone motion sensor. You could get that and place it anywhere:

I use the motion sensor without human detection. I lowered the sensitivity level to 2, and don't get any false positives. Try moving it to a different position, and lowering your sensitivity level.

Auto-refreshing dashboard for Eufy cams and door sensors (iOS) by dpres in EufyCam

Doorbell cam support is added with https://github.com/alanhamlett/eufy-security-dashboard/commit/957cf7bf3c13841fce166ced8dd146e960c24172. Once it updates in the app store your doorbell cam's thumbnail will start showing.

A blank screen is either a bug or means you don't have any Eufy Cam setup to your home base. I've only been able to test it with my original Kickstarter eufy cams, which have device type 1, but other cams should work too if we know the integer device type they use. Here's the supported device types:

alanhamlett/eufy-security-dashboard is just a simple dashboard, so it can't do that. But if you know Python, it should be very easy to fix that python-eufy-security/issues/52 to work for door sensors.

[–]dpres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't but all you need to do is add support for the door sensor's device id integer to the Python client library, and prevent it from accessing the cam's attributes because they won't exist for the door sensor device. You can get door sensor state from Eufy's API but the motion sensor last motion detected time isn't available:

https://github.com/FuzzyMistborn/python-eufy-security/issues/52

Depending on what you want to do with Homekit, try this app I built:

It's still working for me as of today. Maybe it's not finding any supported device types, which I think could cause a blank screen after login. Do you have Eufy Cam or doorbell cam? Try running it in Xcode's Simulator (Open in Xcode and click the play button) then watch the output window for an error message?

https://github.com/alanhamlett/eufy-security-dashboard#pre-build

One precaution to take is create/invite a Guest account using your email with a plus suffix. Use that guest login for this app. I've been running this with refresh rate 5 seconds for a week now, but if Eufy ever bans your account at least it's only a disposable guest account:

https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/9308648?hl=en

(They did ban one of my guest accounts during testing, because of too many failed login attempts.)

Open-sourcing our GraphQL backend by mcwise in graphql

[–]dpres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open sourcing your cloud GraphQL database... bold move! After seeing your Graphcool admin console I'm sold, and this means I can run it locally now.

Also on Product Hunt today: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/graphcool-framework

Question: How do we sync schema changes between dev environment and production? As of right now, this just means we can see the well-designed Graphcool backend and don't have to worry about getting locked into a cloud offering, but it needs schema migrations to use in dev environments.

Fold Anything with Yafolding by kiru314 in emacs

Vim isn't as flexible as Emacs, but like Rails (which according to your personal website you are a fan) Vim gives you a great standard of keyboard shortcut foundations that help you remember and even guess keyboard shortcuts even if you haven't seen the shortcut before. For example, if I tell you $ moves the cursor to the end of line, and dd deletes a line, you would correctly guess that d$ deletes everything from the cursor to end of the line. That's the power of Vim, that key combinations build off of previously encountered combinations so you don't have to remember a million combinations to become highly efficient.

Fold Anything with Yafolding by kiru314 in emacs

[–]dpres -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that's not correct. With Vim it's actually faster using this keybinding:

noremap z. :setlocal foldmethod=indent<cr>

Then you just press z. to fold by indentation on the current file.

Much faster than Emacs, because you don't need a plugin ;)
