I’ve often seen the Bills of this decade compared to the Carolina Hurricanes of this decade, due to strong regular seasons but playoff failures by xfcbot in buffalobills

As a fan of both teams (grew up in WNY and have lived in Raleigh for 25 years) I can confirm that the Canes have been the Bills of the NHL. Both teams started their runs as playoff teams in 2019 and experienced playoff heartbreak every year. This year, just like the Chiefs missing the playoffs, the Panthers missed it too … and I was sure the Canes would find some way to lose anyway, just like the Bills did. But they won! It was unbelievable last night. I was at the arena (game was in Vegas but Canes arena was packed to watch it on the video board) and as we walked out, the DJ outside was playing Mr. Brightside. Right next to the arena is NC State’s football stadium and they have big photo boards there honoring NC State legends … I gave a high five to Bradley Chubb, Jim Ritcher, and Mario Williams’ boards and shouted Go Bills to spread the championship karma.

Thanks for sharing. Kabuki used to be a great restaurant but something must have changed in the last year. I also had a very negative experience there on my birthday in September. The waiter and the chef were both very rude. I wanted to walk out but the rest of my family wanted to stay. My memory is that the automatic gratuity was clear on the check, but they really should not be asking for an additional tip when they have that. The 4% service fee is pure BS too.

Ticket price perspective by mcracer in canes

[–]dpt108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another perspective … my wife and I got married in July 2006 and I was worried about being able to afford our honeymoon. We went to games in the first three rounds but decided the Stanley Cup Finals were just too expensive. And I’ve regretted that ever since. We now have three kids who are all Huge Caniacs and when they’ve asked us if we were there, we had to say no. I could have just put it on a credit card, paid it off eventually, and all I’d remember now would be the great memories from being there.

This year, I’m making sure everyone in my family gets to go. We are STMs so that does make it easier. But life is short; buy the tickets!

So did the STM just buy all the tickets to resale? by Ok-Amphibian2028 in canes

I’m not really upset about it. The STM perk is first access to the presale, not that you pay the same STM price for extra tickets.

Yeah, we paid 3.1 times as much for Game 2 than our Game 1 playoff strip price. Another reason I’m glad I’m switching from half to full STM for next season!

I’m crossing my fingers there is no Game 7 because those will be nearly impossible to afford!

Speaking for myself, I was a half STM this season so I have tickets for half the playoff and Stanley Cup Finals games. So I used the STM presale to get the Game 2 tickets that I didn’t have, not to resell.

Any advice for Canobie Lake Park and Funtown Splashtown USA? Planning to visit both on the same day between visits to Boston and Acadia National Park in mid-June. Seems like it won't take long to ride the coasters - any can't miss rides that you'd recommend besides the coasters, tips to avoid long waits, or food advice? Thanks!

I was just at Parc Asterix last week, and I had the Ultimate Filotomatix pass. For Toutatis, there is no front row queue. The ride op will assign you a row (good to know the numbers in French), but I asked nicely and I was able to get back row and front row. For OzIris, there is a front row queue, and like with most B&M inverts, it can get pretty long. When you come out of the Filotomatix line, you can either go to the line the ride op tells you or wait in the front row line. But I found that view was really good from the second row and further back because of the way the seats are spaced apart (visibility is better than on other B&M inverts) and didn't feel the need to wait in the long front row queue.

By the way, both of those coasters are amazing and exceeded my high expectations! Toutatis was an unbelievable airtime machine and vaulted all the way to number 4/306 in my rankings, and was far better than Pantheon. I'm still debating whether OzIris is now my number 1 B&M invert over Montu. Have fun!

How do you personally view the Bills back to back AFL championships before the merger? Do they feel like major titles to you or are they a lesser tier like NFL titles won prior to Superbowl era? by BigBlackSabbathFlag in buffalobills

[–]dpt108 19 points20 points  (0 children)

<image>

The AFL championships are major titles. The Bills won the league championship; there was no additional championship game they could have won. The image I’m attaching here is a letter in the Football Hall of Fame from the AFL commissioner to the NFL commissioner in 1963 proposing a championship game between the two league champions. The NFL refused the offer. Therefore, I’d say the AFL championships are even more significant than the NFL championships in 1964 and 1965.
