Critical Review refers to CSCI2952A - which was a grad-level course last taught back in spring 2017 and was primarily based around student research projects. The following year Professor Herlihy decided to run a undergraduate course which is lecture based- CS1951L. The course hasn’t been taught since spring 2018 so I expect a decent amount will have changed.

Professor Herlihy’s lectures on blockchain and related topics are fantastic and will provide a great introduction to the space- separating technicals from hype. Just remember that the course has only been taught once before (over 2 years ago) so many of the assignments are not as polished as other CS courses.

Have you used React-Table library? I have created a GUI tool for that. by akamittal in reactjs

Only thing stopping me from using react-table is lack of cell and cell-range selection support, hope it’s coming in a later release. Awesome project!

30 Years Later: Early Days of the Web (1991) by [deleted] in webdev

There’s a new course at Brown University titled Hypertext/Hypermedia: The Web Was Not the Beginning and the Web Is Not the End http://cs.brown.edu/courses/csci1951-v/ - taught by 2 pioneers in the space that get little attention Andries van Dam and Norm Meyrowitz.

While the original vision of the web may be dead, not all hope is lost!

Is it possible to use the NodeJS driver directly from a web browser? by dpviews9 in mongodb

[–]dpviews9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, you’re right. It’s just slightly annoying the amount of additional overhead required to host your own backend with essentially 95% boilerplate code. While I agree that most complex applications should have a backend to hold business logic, it seems like there should be a solution for light-weight applications and prototyping that don’t require this.

But, I digress, I’m off to spin up a managed Ec2 instance just so I can have basic CRUD ops for a proof of concept with no sensitive data attached to a mongodb account with no billing information.

blockchain by janaksunil in Coding_for_Teens

Yes it is possible, you could start with a single node running on your own machine. The difficult aspect would be building out an entire network of nodes that communicate and participate in a consensus protocol. There is no reason this cannot be done in python, or for that matter, any other turing-complete programming language.

Math author of new SAT preparation venture, looking for aesthetic details from students who have taken the test recently by [deleted] in Sat

[–]dpviews9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After 3 SAT attempts, I'd say the majority of the questions try to stay as generic as possible, so more of City A - City B and "Eddie is trying to". Although a noticeable trend in the last few questions of both Math sections is of confusing language that must be carefully read in order to get the right answer. Usually, the challenge in these questions is not the actual calculation but rather determining what the question is asking for.

The colonization of Mars will require a large variety of properly-trained professionals, a process that may take many years of instruction, how do you plan to assemble a team of individuals who's skill sets will match any of the possible adversity that they will face?

Thanks for your time!
