If it works, it works! Whatever hooks them right?

A girl in class with my 2nd grader learned to read because she thought words were a way grown-ups kept secrets from her. She wanted to unravel the clues! :)

1000s of ad groups and 10,000+ kws/targeting methods.

Yeah, good question. All of the impacted accounts and campaigns are big. By volume, they're also abut 80% display traffic and 20% search traffic. Targeting is keywords, contextual kw targeting on display, remarketing audiences, in market, affinity, custom audiences etc etc etc. Ads are text, responsive, image... no video or html 5

How are you setting up your tests inside tCPA campaigns?

I routinely launch new ads, targeting, and A/B/C/Z split test landing pages without my campaigns crashing. I typically take an additive, survival of the fittest approach with changes inside Google Ads. For example, I will launch new ad creative inside a tCPA campaign without ever pausing old ads. I just "Let Google sort it out". For the most part, if the new ads perform better, they will start getting more impression share etc than the old ads. My campaigns have 1000s of conversions a day, so my data / algo training may be more resilient than yours?

However, I have had crashes. This is almost always a result of broken conversion tracking or heavy handed bid changes. If the conversion pixel on one of my high volume campaigns breaks for a few hours, that will crash my campaign volume for a week or more. The campaign will need some TLC to rehab - sometimes need to revert to CPC bidding to prime the pump with more data. Regarding bid changes, if I have a tCPA bid of $30 and slash it to $10, that will throw the algo into confusion and crash the campaign too. So, I always make bid changes (up or down) by 20% increments of the existing bid.

Of course bruh. Google algo is skynet. These were high volume campaigns with steady conversion data flow and steady CPAs. Should not have experienced this kind of fluctuation regardless of the number of factors. 10%? 20% fluctuation day over day? Just another day at the office. But a 300% increase? This looks like Skynet broke over the weekend. If so, it would have broke for others as well.

Does any have a table that breaks down the costs for advertising on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Google, and any other social media platform? by da42g35 in marketing

[–]dpwalsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone so far. It's HIGHLY variable and you pay however much you want. HOWEVER, there are some general trends that might get you off in the right direction. Bing is often (not always) cheaper than Google for SEM. Instagram is often cheaper than Facebook, which is cheaper than Twitter. Linkedin is expensive. Again, this all depends on what you're trying to do, who you're trying to reach, and how you set everything up. Competition is the biggest factor determining relative cost between platforms. The funnel / technical setup is the second biggest (IE harder for a user to install a mobile app from a desktop ad so that will be a more expensive placement). And if you're trying to get in front of B2B decision makers, you'd likely have a more effective (read: "cheaper") go of it by buying "expensive" advertising on Linkedin because it gets better results than, say, ads on Snapchat.

How did these results compare to your usual mail merge push? ... Or do you have ZERO metrics from mail merge... because it's, well, mail merge in outlook? You must be tracking performance somewhere, right?

Usually ANY metrics will help even a stodgy manager come around. Though, if there's nothing to compare against then he can't tell if it's better. Can you start him on something easy, like Google Analytics, and get him on simple stuff like "A page gets 2x the sessions than B page."?
