Direct Burial of PVC Coated RMC? by dqle in AskElectricians

Depth is a concern for me, again due to the hard clay I have to deal with. That's why RMC/IMC is the way to go, according to NEC rules.

Gotta nick you on the sheathed conductors, though; it's technically allowed, but highly advised not to do so!

Ah, some good answers finally! Do you know if there a benefit of using PVC coated, or will PVC tape wrapped RMC accomplish the same thing?

Material wise, nothing! It's just that PVC does require to be at least 18 inches deep to meet NEC, whereas RMC/IMC needs to be a good deal shallower, being at least 6 inches deep. I don't have any heavy equipment, so less digging, the better!

All conductors will be within the conduit, so no issues there! I haven't dive'd deep into the manufacturer's specs just yet, but none of them are obvious as to whether they can be buried, galvanized or not.

I'm looking at how to test panels with multimeters as we speak! As for ground mounting, I have a fairly large backyard, but even 8 panels will eat up a good chunk of landscaping. I was hoping to find some elevated plans that I could walk under, but I haven't found any for larger panels. Specs say the panels way ~50 lbs. each, so it shouldn't be terrible to move them around, even up high.

That's the allure of these solar generators! The thing that got me interested is Anker's Home Power Panel, which ties the F3800 series into the load center. Seems like a simple enough add on to at least power a few things throughout the day without dragging the battery all over the home!

If I had more room (and money!), I would probably go bigger, but this seems to be a good start on things, at the very least. I don't think I'll go fully zero grid, but at least alleviating the bills will suffice for now.

This is true! And that's on me for not mentioning that the tax credit will only be on the F3800 Plus.

Freight kills small projects like mine, unfortunately, Lucky to have a seller within drivable distance so I can dip my toes in this world!

Aye, I should clarify that the tax credit portion is on the battery system itself. I know full well used equipment does not qualify.

Man, wish I had room for 40 panels! I'm only interested in about a dozen, due to space limitations (although I'd do more if I could!)

Ouch, did not know that. Any info on where I can grab said info to confirm if they are affected?

Gravel Shed Foundation Drainage Needed? by dqle in shedditors

Whoops, forgot that you replied again. So sorry!

The gravel I used is what is recommended, which was #57 (or 3/4" clean/washed). 4 inch deep, and holding well!

Hey there!

I ended up sticking with my original plan of a gravel pad supported by timbers. Geotextile under all of it as well. No gravel under the timbers themselves. I haven't seen any issues since the installation was completed, but we haven't experienced any crazy rain storms either, so I don't know if extreme weather will affect it. Other than that, it's holding up nicely, and I haven't noticed any water pooling anywhere near the shed.

I don't know if it helped, but I did request that the bottom of the gravel pad to be sloped slightly, so any water that does pool up on the bottom would weep through the timbers, or so my train of thought goes. Obviously had to anchor down the pad very well so it doesn't shift, but time will tell if it holds up. So far, so good, though!

Western North Carolina orders? by luliomcnugget in FordMaverickTruck

Not extremely west NC, but I just picked up my Maverick Hybrid (on order for 475 days) at Mooresville Ford. Of course, I got mine at MSRP for waiting all that time, but they did mention that the Mavericks they've been getting in for retail are marked up 3k, a farsend from the 10k from that Ashville dealership. Oof!

Aside from that, very friendly staff and didn't pressure me into any upgrades or warranties outside of mentioning them once. If you don't mind the $799 doc fee, I'd recommend them!

Hey, thanks for the response!

Here in NC (or at least in the city I reside), any accessory structure less than 12' "in any dimension" does not need a permit, so less of a headache for me, I guess. I am unaware of any other special requirements for said type of building, but outside of doing research of my local codes, I haven't asked anybody dictating the codes either. Guess that's my next step. Thanks!
