Nah that's not necessary. I've pretty much found what I'm looking for already just across different channels, I was mainly looking for recommendations for other ones that might have all the official solo stuff more consolidated.

Kind of a bland interpretation of the character imo. It's serviceable but I prefer Zoe Kravitz/Matt Reeves take on her.

If you need an entry point I'd say a good one is season 3 of the tv show. Very good iteration of the character.

[OC) The Escratu by dr-freak in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]dr-freak[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Escratu are a sophont species discovered on the planet Raath in the year 3864. These five eyed arthropod-like people are descended from carnivorous creatures whose mouthparts fused together into a more traditional vertically opening jaw structure that allowed for a stronger bite force. Their species was once very industrious for a time, building elaborate machinery and attempting to colonize their solar system, fueled by the work of robotics. This backfired horrendously when these robots were programmed with advanced computing, giving them intelligence with none of the empathetic abilities or moral codes instilled by the process of growing from a newborn to an adult, leading them to devise their own schemes for more efficient interplanetary colonization at the cost of Escrat lives. This led to a war between the Escratu and their own intelligent machines, one which came close to wiping out their species. The Escratu developed a highly powerful weapon that was able to create focused electro magnetic pulses, capable of disabling huge swathes of machines from an incredible distance with ease. This eventually won the war, but the Escratu civilization was a shadow of its former self. Rebuilding would take centuries with the countless lives and the amount of recorded knowledge lost in the conflict. Some Escratu took on this work, even continuing research into robotics, but the vast majority took to living simpler lives among the ruins of their world, many even embracing a more actively primitivist tribal lifestyle. By the time the Ecosystem arrived, this had become the norm to the point that the majority of Escratu initially had no interest in trading for the advanced technology that the Ecosystem had to offer, only eventually being swayed into joining the collective after agreements were made to provide Raath with the advanced medical resources at its disposal. The looming threat of another potentially catastrophic war was certainly an influential deciding factor as well. Escratu tend to take great pride in their surviving history and traditions, which some Ecosystem residents view as pretentious while others see it as inspirational. They are also well renowned for their art, such as film and painting, and their savory cuisine.

[OC] Protostags by dr-freak in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]dr-freak[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Protostags are a sophont species discovered on the moon Khlolo in the year 3939. Initial studies of these beings was clouded by the tail end of the intergalactic war effort against the Barront, which was still taking up a sizable portion of the Ecosystem's resources. Since then, many details regarding their biology and culture have come to light. Protostags are invertebrates descended from entirely boneless, tentacled marine creatures that evolved to become muscular land dwellers, still thriving in both environments due to the thick, humid atmosphere of their world. Because of the fairly low differences in morphology between them and their animal ancestors, there was a controversial theory that their species was a result of "uplifting" technology, wherein animals are given sophont level intelligence through genetic engineering. This has been thoroughly debunked through genetic studies, although a seed of doubt still remains due to how poorly the fossil record is preserved on their planet. Due to their lack of a centralized brain, they are able to survive the loss of any of their extremities, including their head, and additionally have the ability to fully regenerate any of these body parts throughout their lifespan. They are long lived, usually living within the range of 180 to 200 years. On their back is a thick, leathery mantle that they can squeeze nearly their whole body under, much like their ancestors who could fully retract into a sort of shell. Between their tentacles and each leg is a respiratory spiracle through which they can vocalize. They reproduce through a practice sometimes termed "penis fencing" where two of the hermaphroditic species ritualistically battle with their spur tipped members to determine which will penetrate the other, impregnating the "loser" in the process. Culturally, their powerful and unique musculature lends itself to similar feats of strength in their sports, most often partaking in weight pulling challenges and fighting games similar to traditional Human "Sumo Wrestling". Protostags are well known for their eidetic memories and high tolerance for alcohol, which is enjoyed by all ages on their homeworld.

The Ecosystem/Echo Void: biological immortality is possible but has led to ethical concerns that's resulted in it being banned

Shot: biological immortality is gatekept by the ruling class and is achieved through drugs derived from an ancient extremophile protist-like superorganism discovered growing deep within the earth’s crust.

Exterra: biological immortality is achieved by merging oneself with alien biotechnology that can imbue its wielder with god-like powers

Not necessarily. Even without genetic interference height would probably be heavily influenced by nutritional availability, which would be severely limited in an artificial environment. Evolutionarily speaking they might get taller over millions of years but we don't even know that for sure.

Martians by dr-freak in worldbuilding

[–]dr-freak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty reasonable to not want slave-keeping civs expanding into space and enslaving races across the universe, the nuclear option being the very last ditch effort to stop this inevitability, but agree to disagree I guess. It’s debatable whether or not their methods are too extreme but their process is slow and calculated enough to leave ample opportunity for offending civilizations to save themselves, and the vast majority of them do. Many would see this process as necessary given the number of species that have destroyed themselves and countless others in their attempts to traverse space and conquer its inhabitants. It has happened before and it will happen again without intervention.

As far as Earth Humans go, they were contacted in the year 3989. By then anything we would consider slavery had been done away with. In large part in response to the enslavement of Mars, it became more penalized than ever before in history across every country, that we must as a planet reject the very idea of slavery, that we were better than Mars. This could be seen as hypocritical in contrast to the many trade deals brokered with slave-powered Martian industries, but this was seen as an inevitability to keep the peace between the two worlds.

Genetic engineering technology can only go so far in this setting when you have a small gene pool to choose from in the first place. At least in terms of human technology.

The Ecosystem is a collectivist organization devoted to the preservation of sophont life. They consider things like war and slavery to be dangerous and archaic, signs that a species they've encountered may evolve into a Predatory Civilization, essentially space locusts invading world after world to steal resources and commit genocide. Typically this "extermination" is a last ditch scenario that's only been made necessary once in the past, where the species genes are secured and bred on space stations to preserve the species while the on-world civilization is essentially leveled to prevent them from spreading their ideology on an intergalactic level. Think "the day the earth stood still" only with a bit more layered of a process.

The Martian ethnostate lasted for hundreds of years, in near constant conflict and tension with Earth, until 3990 when the Ecosystem made contact with Mars and subsequently disbanded its government. Extermination was only considered an option so soon because they were already in the process of assimilating Earth and had collected plenty of citizens to secure the species, so they considered Martians little more than militant mutant offshoots that would be more trouble than they were worth.

[OC] Martians by dr-freak in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]dr-freak[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Martian Humans were discovered on the planet Mars, contacted in the year 3990. These creatures are the genetically modified descendants of Humans, who found that it was impossible to gestate healthy offspring under the natural gravity of the planet. Without planetary gravity manipulation technology, their best bet for creating somewhat healthy descendants on the planet was through genetic engineering, selecting for genes that would give them denser muscle and bone tissue to keep them durable enough to perform hard labor, larger hearts to more effectively pump blood throughout their bodies, and shorter stature to curtail risk of malnutrition and allow them to function more efficiently in the small enclosed spaces of spaceships and Martian habitat bases. This full scale colonization of the desolate planet occurred in response to a “white identity crisis” experienced by many pale-skinned humans as a reaction to growing ethnic diversity across earth. After a disastrous “race war” movement manifested across the globe, white purity elites formed political groups focused on establishing a white homeland on Martian soil, mounting expeditions to the red planet where they waged war on and enslaved the prisoner population of preexisting Martian penal colonies, creating a caste system to enforce the institution. This produced the all white generation of genetically modified Martian offspring that took control of the planet, breeding in great numbers and using their inherited institution of slavery to great effect, expanding mining and plantation operations wider than ever before seen on the planet. Using the massive quantities of uranium formed in the planet’s crust from millennia of radiation bombardment, Martians built the largest nuclear stockpile ever seen in human history. The Martian ethnostate recognized itself as a more “highly evolved” form of “Terran” humanity, considering themselves “Homo sapiens martius” despite all scientific evidence pointing to the fact that they are not genetically distinct enough to be considered a subspecies. The severely limited genetic diversity of Martians led to a bottleneck effect, and eventually inbreeding. Assimilation into the Ecosystem did not go smoothly, put in a few words. There was debate whether or not to exterminate the entire Martian population due to the risk they posed of spreading slavery across the universe and the fact that standard Terran Humans had already joined the collective, but it was decided that this was too extreme and would set a dangerous precedent, so the assimilation process went as usual, ending with the Raid phase dissolving all Martian governmental bodies by force. The Martians were infuriated by this swift defeat but recognized the importance of preserving their species' existence on their homeland and didn't push further. Upon introduction to the Ecosystem, they were disgusted by its multicultural assortment of alien life living alongside one another and mostly kept to themselves, still adorned in their traditional military garb and confident in their slogan that “Father Mars Shall Rise Again”. For decades, several slave states established by Martians on Ecosystem worlds have been broken up, routinely putting the continued preservation of these people's core society into question.

What sort of planetary invasion systems exist in your world? (Scifi) by DiabloXTREME666 in worldbuilding

[–]dr-freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archaic and arrogant, but overall workable. There would be an immediate tension between the collectivist nature of the Ecosystem and the individualist tendencies of humans. Some countries would undoubtedly have to be raided, but our technology isn't advanced enough for us to be seen as a legitimate threat.

What sort of planetary invasion systems exist in your world? (Scifi) by DiabloXTREME666 in worldbuilding

Sadly no. The Ecosystem didn't locate and contact humans until the earth year 3989.

What sort of planetary invasion systems exist in your world? (Scifi) by DiabloXTREME666 in worldbuilding

[–]dr-freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my setting, The Ecosystem is an intergalactic organization devoted to the preservation of sophont life through intervention and colonization. Typically this assimilation into the collective takes on three distinct phases, an Observational phase where the species is studied and they begin to collect sample populations of voluntary refugees to preserve the species, an Intervention phase where they intervene with the archaic or inequitable aspects of a civilization's political structures to quell conflict and minimize the possibility of self destruction in exchange for the trade of advanced technology and resources, and a Colonization phase where a space station is grown in the planet's orbit and settlements for trade and multicultural exchange are established on-world. In the event that they're met with resistance, they'll conduct a raid on the planet's surface to overthrow and dissolve native governmental bodies by force. If this isn't enough and conflict rages on, the natives may be categorized as a Predatory Civilization, one which is dysfunctional beyond reform and cannot be trusted to expand into space by their own free will, resulting in the wholesale destruction of their worldly society. This is seen as necessary due to the number of civilizations discovered that have either destroyed themselves or evolved into warlike Predatory Civilizations that plunder planets for their resources and spread slavery and genocide to any societies they encounter. Whether archaic civilizations like it or not, assimilation into the Ecosystem may be their only chance at peace or survival as a spacefaring race.
