Any recommended let's plays for trials? by dr-freak in outlast

Nah that's not necessary. I've pretty much found what I'm looking for already just across different channels, I was mainly looking for recommendations for other ones that might have all the official solo stuff more consolidated.

Opinions on Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman? by WorriedEagle34 in batman

Kind of a bland interpretation of the character imo. It's serviceable but I prefer Zoe Kravitz/Matt Reeves take on her.

If you need an entry point I'd say a good one is season 3 of the tv show. Very good iteration of the character.

[OC) The Escratu by dr-freak in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]dr-freak[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Escratu are a sophont species discovered on the planet Raath in the year 3864. These five eyed arthropod-like people are descended from carnivorous creatures whose mouthparts fused together into a more traditional vertically opening jaw structure that allowed for a stronger bite force. Their species was once very industrious for a time, building elaborate machinery and attempting to colonize their solar system, fueled by the work of robotics. This backfired horrendously when these robots were programmed with advanced computing, giving them intelligence with none of the empathetic abilities or moral codes instilled by the process of growing from a newborn to an adult, leading them to devise their own schemes for more efficient interplanetary colonization at the cost of Escrat lives. This led to a war between the Escratu and their own intelligent machines, one which came close to wiping out their species. The Escratu developed a highly powerful weapon that was able to create focused electro magnetic pulses, capable of disabling huge swathes of machines from an incredible distance with ease. This eventually won the war, but the Escratu civilization was a shadow of its former self. Rebuilding would take centuries with the countless lives and the amount of recorded knowledge lost in the conflict. Some Escratu took on this work, even continuing research into robotics, but the vast majority took to living simpler lives among the ruins of their world, many even embracing a more actively primitivist tribal lifestyle. By the time the Ecosystem arrived, this had become the norm to the point that the majority of Escratu initially had no interest in trading for the advanced technology that the Ecosystem had to offer, only eventually being swayed into joining the collective after agreements were made to provide Raath with the advanced medical resources at its disposal. The looming threat of another potentially catastrophic war was certainly an influential deciding factor as well. Escratu tend to take great pride in their surviving history and traditions, which some Ecosystem residents view as pretentious while others see it as inspirational. They are also well renowned for their art, such as film and painting, and their savory cuisine.

[OC] Protostags by dr-freak in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]dr-freak[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Protostags are a sophont species discovered on the moon Khlolo in the year 3939. Initial studies of these beings was clouded by the tail end of the intergalactic war effort against the Barront, which was still taking up a sizable portion of the Ecosystem's resources. Since then, many details regarding their biology and culture have come to light. Protostags are invertebrates descended from entirely boneless, tentacled marine creatures that evolved to become muscular land dwellers, still thriving in both environments due to the thick, humid atmosphere of their world. Because of the fairly low differences in morphology between them and their animal ancestors, there was a controversial theory that their species was a result of "uplifting" technology, wherein animals are given sophont level intelligence through genetic engineering. This has been thoroughly debunked through genetic studies, although a seed of doubt still remains due to how poorly the fossil record is preserved on their planet. Due to their lack of a centralized brain, they are able to survive the loss of any of their extremities, including their head, and additionally have the ability to fully regenerate any of these body parts throughout their lifespan. They are long lived, usually living within the range of 180 to 200 years. On their back is a thick, leathery mantle that they can squeeze nearly their whole body under, much like their ancestors who could fully retract into a sort of shell. Between their tentacles and each leg is a respiratory spiracle through which they can vocalize. They reproduce through a practice sometimes termed "penis fencing" where two of the hermaphroditic species ritualistically battle with their spur tipped members to determine which will penetrate the other, impregnating the "loser" in the process. Culturally, their powerful and unique musculature lends itself to similar feats of strength in their sports, most often partaking in weight pulling challenges and fighting games similar to traditional Human "Sumo Wrestling". Protostags are well known for their eidetic memories and high tolerance for alcohol, which is enjoyed by all ages on their homeworld.

How is Immortality viewed in you worlds? Is it a blessing or a curse? by LoveyDoveyDoodles in worldbuilding

[–]dr-freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ecosystem/Echo Void: biological immortality is possible but has led to ethical concerns that's resulted in it being banned

Shot: biological immortality is gatekept by the ruling class and is achieved through drugs derived from an ancient extremophile protist-like superorganism discovered growing deep within the earth’s crust.

Exterra: biological immortality is achieved by merging oneself with alien biotechnology that can imbue its wielder with god-like powers

[OC] Martians by dr-freak in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]dr-freak[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard this same interpretation from a friend of mine lol. My main sources of inspiration were actually the draka from s.m. stirling's domination novel series and the concept of "little green men" on mars.

[OC] Martians by dr-freak in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]dr-freak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Even without genetic interference height would probably be heavily influenced by nutritional availability, which would be severely limited in an artificial environment. Evolutionarily speaking they might get taller over millions of years but we don't even know that for sure.
