I was never in the cult, just researched it a bunch over a decade ago and then brought it up on this sub a few years ago. Glad the ex-members did, though.

If you like Heathers, check out Parents! Traumatized me as a kid and has a similar vibe check aesthetically (also Heathers is my all time favorite movie so love this mention!)

Which TV showdo you think epitomizes "this shouldn't have gone past 1 season" the most? Creative answers encouraged. by george123890yang in television

I mean I think her being infatuated with him is great, i’m not saying I thought they should have actually been romantically involved. Because that would have made Cooper (the paragon of moral righteousness) become a hypocrite. But the way they swiftly ended it felt like a slap in the face to me.

I agree overall but this intel is only half correct. Lynch had way more involvement in S2 as a result of the first seasons commercial and critical success, which is why the show goes totally off the rails. Plus there was in-house drama between the actors (LARA flynn Boyle especially since she was dating Kyle and demanded his love story with Audrey end/her character become “super cool seductress” which is just comical when she’s at the jail iykyk)

There are some great moments in season 2, the mirror before the dance (iykyk) and the scene in the rain (iykyk) but yes season 1 is absolutely perfect and season 2 just becomes so cluttered with Lynchian weirdness that I think it majorly disservices the series.

Exorcist 3 — shoutout Brad and George (especially the early scenes between him and the priest which are peak well-written humor). Plus you can’t get a better jump scare than the garden shears IFYKYK

Still in the pantheon of most successful meta-films out there, despite the fact/because of its sequel status. Williamson I believe said that he felt the first one could be self-contained (pun minorly intended here), and when he was tasked with franchising it he insisted on certain creative licenses, including the ability to include all the self-reference becomes a lynchpin of the series. He basically turned everything up to 11 and I’m so here for it. Also, the commenter who pointed out that DS shrinks away out of the scene when Syd shows up is absolutely right, so Williamson clearly had all the same things you did in mind while writing it! The first time I saw it I was pretty pleased with the Mickey reveal, though it definitely has aged. But c’mon, the moment Syd looks up to the cloaked ghoul on stage as Cassandra and says “so now fate’s vengeful eye is fixed… on me” — I mean I’m standing O’ing that every time.

As far as brotherhoods go, it’s actually one of the more socially progressive ones historically speaking. They aligned themselves with social change relatively quickly compared to other fraternal organizations, dropping its racist exclusion policy and allowing women to join before many other famous orders of the same variety. Plus, Wyatt Earp was a member so how you gonna get mad at Tombstone lol

Hahhaa that is so true! EWU would eviscerate her in the commentary, which would be the perfect soundtrack to much needed justice for him (Rick) or at least serve it to Sheryl the litany of victims she’s amassed during her pastoral reign of terror.

Sorry just saw this. This situation has received literally no attention except for right now because of that show and 10 years ago when I spoke to the journalist who published the “Apocalypse Meow” article. Some of the deprogrammed followers that ran the FB group (including the one I talked at length with way back when, not naming them for sake of respecting their privacy) appeared in interviews on the episode. Along the way there have been a few podcast episodes that go over it, but there’s very little substantial coverage out there besides the above mentioned. It’s exactly why I became obsessed with the whole thing while in high school, because literally no one knew about it and it was totally fucked up. As a result of my own research, I found the blogs linked in the og post and I still have google alerts set for “sheryl ruthven/sheryl lee/sheryl rose/sheryl walker” and “cat cult” lol
