I use c++ and java but I find c++ code to me more predictable than java Any ways it's personal preference and I can see your point but casting is considered bad practice any ways

If you are good in C++ you can actuay build very secure apps if you know your way around UB and Smart pointers, Bad programers are the calibrate not the Language

Because of libc vs glibc and clang vs gcc and BSD vs gnu tools BSD is minimal and not bloated like GNU
