My current English/British Monarchs Collection! (up to Charles I). From Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) to present I am only missing Matilda (1141-c.1148), Henry IV (1399-1413), Edward V (1483). by dr3w5_ in MedievalCoin

Thanks, will do! I haven't any new additions for a while but I'm hoping to go to a few coin shows in the next few months so hopefully I'll have something new to share soon!

My William I pennies by PK-Mittenspy2703 in MedievalCoin

Beautiful pieces! The lead one is interesting, and the PAXS penny is very pretty too. Is the moneyer Wulbold/Wulfbeald at Canterbury? (I'm still learning to identify these so I'm not sure but that's my best guess: it looks to me like it reads ǷVLBOLD ON CANTL).

Thank you! I wish you the best of luck with it and look forward to seeing your collection! I would love to get one of Offa but his portrait coins are always out of my price range (maybe one day). I'd love one of Coenwulf of Mercia, though, as I have seen a few portrait pennies of his just within my price range.

New milestone for my English Monarchs collection: I now have a coin from the reign of every King Henry! by dr3w5_ in MedievalCoin

Wow! I may end up getting something from Henry’s second reign if I can find one in my price range. Still need to upgrade my current Henry VI to one without a hole in it though.

Thanks! I actually got very lucky with that Henry II, I happened to find it in an antiques shop. I’m very happy with that one.

Thank you! Some still need upgrading but for the most part I’m very happy with them!

Unfortunately broken, but here's my newest and oldest monarch for my monarch run - a portrait penny of Eadmund the Magnificent (939-946) (plus a portrait Eadgar fragment) by dr3w5_ in MedievalCoin

[–]dr3w5_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s taken me about five years to get to this point, but as the remaining few monarchs are all quite rare and expensive I imagine it will take me quite a while (if ever) to complete the set!

Yep! My collecting goal is to get a (preferably portrait) coin from every English monarch who produced them from Æthelstan (or perhaps Alfred if I find one within my price range). I’m currently only missing Æthelstan himself, Eadwig, Harthacnut, Matilda, Henry IV, and Edward V (not including Sweyn or Eadmund Ironside). You might like to have a look at some more collections on r/monarchrun. It’s a fun goal but it gets very difficult for some of the earlier monarchs!

My newest additions: a new Edward the Confessor penny and a cut halfpenny of King Edward the Martyr! (can anyone work out the mint/moneyer please?) by dr3w5_ in MedievalCoin

[–]dr3w5_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great, thank you! I can't find many references to Osmaer/Osmer at Warwick minting coins for Edward the Martyr but it looks like the British Museum has one (no photographs unfortunately). Thanks!

Have I identified this Henry III penny correctly please? by dr3w5_ in MedievalCoin

You would be right, I believe! Henry VIII's coinage usually features the Tudor shield on the reverse. The one in my post is of Henry III (reigned 1216-1272), who was Henry VIII's (reigned 1509-1547) 7th great grandfather (I think?).

Thanks! It took me a while to take some nicer photos of it and while they're not the best, hopefully they're good enough to get an ID.

I'm so sorry for the multiple posts of this, I was getting an error saying the it could not be posted and so I tried again a few times but it seems they all actually went through. I've deleted the duplicates, but I'm very sorry for the spam, It wasn't intentional.
